Need some expert opinions
EE2.0 on our systems (T420) suppose to boot up the system faster but wonder if that is just for SSD's not our HDD drives or am I wrong ? My boot time is between 52 sec's to 1 min 5 sec's on my notebook but not seeing anything close to a fast boot time.
I cleaned some of the unneeded programs but no help in booting up faster.
Saw the Lenovo fast boot up video not long ago and was impressive but not for me. Any thoughts ?
I do not have heavy security programs nor any messenger programs (bloatware is reduced but not by much from Lenovo) installed on my computer

Bootup time is actually measured by the time after bios post to the time the windows login screen comes on.
Do you have a lot of bios screen showing for a long time? You can try disabling those in the bios.
On the other hand, if you buy a SSD from Lenovo, that should come w/ EE2.0 optimized, but if you installed it yourself then it won't be. -
It depends the speed of the hard disk you have, you're not going to get stellar boot times with a 5400RPM drive regardless if it has Lenovo EE 2.0 or not. My R61e with a 7200RPM drive boots in around 30 seconds, my T61 just about halves that with an SSD and both using clean installs (no Lenovo EE, but even so it wasn't around at the time for my models).
The videos you see from Lenovo takes advantage of UEFI boot, from what I see it's in the early phase at the moment. Most notebooks today tend to still use the traditional BIOS boot method. -
There was a time where I got my T400 to boot into Windows 7 desktop in 28 seconds from power button on a 5400RPM drive.

Here's an article about Lenovo's "secret sauce" about its fast boot time..... among the various tweeks done to the system, one that stood out was that they used a ssd.....

Are you counting boot up time or actual usability?
My SSDs all give me 16-17 seconds to a usable desktop. Otherwise it loads it like 12-13 seconds. -
Agreed. SSD is the secret sauce
My desktop takes less than 30 sec to start and less than 2 sec to go to the login screen from sleep. -
Not complaining too much, but the 10 second boot up does not exist for me. Not even 30 seconds. So why the hype about this new darn faster boot up ?
Takes about 9 seconds to power off which is identical to my desktop with a VelociRaptor drive -

The running processes directly affects boot up times (duh). All my installs got the minimum to get off the ground running. -

For my non domain joined machines, it takes right at 35 seconds from the time I press the power button until I see the Windows 7 network icon appear active. That's with SSD.
HDD adds about 30 seconds for me. -
On my new X220 it takes about 28 seconds from pressing the power on button to the login screen. It takes me about 7 seconds to type in my password. 35 seconds to this point.
Then I have the desktop at 40 seconds and WiFi internet connected at 50 seconds from power on.
I have done nothing to trim the Lenovo original install. I have Windows 7 fully updated and other programs installed. -
on my w520, took 35 secs from pressing power button to win 7 login screen.
My Hdd is the stock 500GB 7200rpm.
Will report back when my intel Msata ssd arrives next week -
That is impressive.
My W520 with 500GB 7200rpm needs 1 mind to boot up.

using boot racer my bootup time is 30 secs using a Seagate XT drive.

It's not about the brand/model. It's about what you've done to Windows post-install. For example, if one insists on having a lot of stuff load at boot, then one must suffer the consequence of long boot times regardless of brand or model.
-
I should add that while my boot time might be 50 seconds or so, coming out of Suspend is very quick. Only a couple of seconds I guess.
-
Are there any Lenovo sites, or other locations that may list the start up stuff one could consider uninstalling/disabling ? Some of them, were greek to me. Had over 97 start up services when I got the system.
-
If you launch msconfig from a command prompt, there is an option to hide Microsoft services. Hide those and the list becomes a lot smaller.
-
I am in the 60 second to windows logon and 23-25 seconds after entering password to usable computer with internet connection.
That is with a Crucial C300.
