When researching for a laptop I came to this website from google and saw they had a forum. I did my newbness duties by reading the FAQ's and searched a bunch of topics. Needless to say this took some precious time from me studying for law school finals but it was worth it. Now that school is done for the semester I decided to register. And to "contribute" as a newb...I bought the case PC X small laptop sleeve and it fits my x61s with 8 cell PERFECTLY! I read many reviews on it and despite the specs claiming it wouldnt fit, it fits like a glove. I searched and found no reviews on this sleeve fitting this specific laptop so I figured I'd post my $.02. Anyway here's the specs of the laptop I got from Lenovo right before finals began:

    X61s
    1.8 processor low voltage
    Vista business
3 gigs of ram (don't worry bought a 2 gig stick from neweg for $50)
    120 gb 5400 rpm hd
    fingerprint scanner
    BT
    ABGN wireless
"ultra" light screen (opted to not get the verizon built in because it seemed the screen wasnt the same)
Intel turbo memory (can't tell if this makes a difference at all)
x6 ultra base +slim cd drve
    3 year depot warranty.

Paid just under $1500 IIRC and so far so good. Almost returned it because my hands seemed to big on the keyboard...but I promised myself I'd like the portability coming from a Dell Latitude D820. So far I love it, vista takes a bit of getting used to. But all in all, the quality of Lenovo is far superior to anything else I've touched (despite people claiming this company is "cheap" now).

-opted for the s over the "regular" x61 because I bought into the marketing or beter battery life+ a bit lighter. Not sure If I'll knwo the difference between a 2.2ghz NV processor(x61) vs a 1.8 LV in my S model.

Excellent rig and welcome to NBR! :D

You really made a wise choice going with the X61s. Did you know the Reserve Edition that costs $5,000 uses the same model you have? Just a little tidbit for you. ;)

    Enjoy your ThinkPad.

There's no marketing hype to it, the X61s does have better battery life than the regular X61. I really enjoyed the X61s I got to review over the summer, but alas I'm not a trackpoint fan.

Thank you sir..I saw that model and saw the specs and I just laughed. I originally paid $1750 for the laptop but got a quick price match right after it shipped.

No I believe it I read the detailed PDF file from lenovo..I was referring to how much "lighter" could the ultra light screen be? The battery life I'm sure is better because of the processor...and I figured for my purposes the chances of a "better" quality screen with the S (12" is hard to read as it is) and less heat is worth a small sacrifice in performance. All I used on my dell was the trackpoint so I was happy the touch pad wasn't offered.

-also got another ac adapter to plug in the ultra base I forgot to mention in my 1st post.

How much time are we talking in battery gain ZaZ? from a x61 to a x61s with all those factors included?

newb ? to all...how can I disable all passwords and fingerprint security? I have to bring the laptop to my school to ave it programmed to work with their wireless network and I don't want them callin to sa they can't do it because of passwords and such. I keep lookin but even on startup its asking me for a fingerprint. :(

I've tried that...and everytime I turn the comp on it asks for a password to "verify", and the password I put it never works. I need more time on vista I guess...on XP this seemed so easy.
