I need to buy an extra charger for the T61. The 65W charger is $40 on the lenovo website.
I found this on ebay:

My concern is that these are fakes that are sold on ebay. How can they be selling the charger for so much less?
Oh and are there any current coupon codes that might take a few dollars off the charger?

I'm speaking out of my ass here - but what harm can a charger possibly do?
-
That looks like it is a genuine IBM/Lenovo charger. If it was a fake, it simply wouldn't have the IBM logo on it. BTW, the trend always seems to be that OEMs jack up the prices on their own websites (for accessories and such).

They can short out and cause a fire or kill your electronics or even you. This is especially the case with generic Chinese power adapters. I heard a week ago that a 9 year old kid in the UK was killed by a Chinese power adapter. These should be good enough reasons why not to buy those generic power adapters or laptop batteries.

Just be careful. Two of their most recent negative feedbacks were about fake Nikon chargers.

I don't have any experience with 3rd party chargers, but I wouldn't automatically rule out 3rd party batteries. In my experience they're every bit as reliable as 1st party batteries as long as they're CE certified. 1st party batteries, like every other accessory, are horrendously overpriced.

I had an OEM Lenovo charger get so hot it melted itself haha.
But if it's an OE charger on ebay, it's most likely good. -
Thanks for the help. I realized that I could buy the charger for $35 with shipping and tax under the student discounts page. In the end I'd rather not test out to see whether the ebay product is a fake chinese product over a $5 difference.

Does your T61 have the discrete graphics card? If so, you will need to get the 90W charger for your machine.
I think only the T61 machines with the integrated graphics can use the smaller and lighter 65W charger. -
I've had the bad experience of the original charger dying on me, OEM replacement not being available, one 3rd party no working, and getting gouged for one when one of Acer's "part partners" had a new stock of them. Moral of the story, I bought a spare along with the T61p.
