Dumb question re the following two:

    1) CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo 24X/24X/24X/8X Max, Ultrabay Slim

    2) DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim

Can (2) do all the things that (1) can do (CD-rewritable etc.)? In other words will I lose anything by choosing (2) over (1)?

    Thanks in advance. :)

the cd-rw will write cds (duh)
but the dvd recorder will write dvds along with cd-rws

so you wont be losing any function from choosing the dvd writer

About 20 or so... all for short-term archiving purposes or to send large files to people. Worth the extra money IMO not to have to piddle around with armfuls of CD-Rs.

I personally prefer flash drives because I hardly ever use my DVD period. :)

I like flash drives, too, but they're unproven (and too expensive) for basic archiving and I ain't going to pop a 4GB flash drive in the mail to a customer just so they can get their files. I'd never get it back! That's why my DVD-R is handy.

I use burner mostly to burn DVD movies and ISO images, all new Vista, 2008 Server and 2007 Exchange versions require DVD. I make some home videos too :)
