Is that RAM the correct type to put into a T61 in conjunction with the standard RAM you get?

yes, the T61 & X61 both accept this type of RAM (DDR2 667MHz PC2-5300 SODIMM).

Thank I just wanted to make sure before ordering as I'm used to desktop ram and not laptop ram.

Well with two ram slots I was hoping to have 3GB in total with the already existing 1GB stick in the laptop and to toss in a 2gb stick for 3gb total. Is this not possible?

Wow. Things are sure expensive there in Canada. Can't you just buy it from a US retailer to save some money?

It is quite possible. If you have the 64-bit edition of Vista Business you can even have 2 x 2GB = 4 GB. (which could get Vista running at nearly the speed of XP)

I was just told by someone that if you have unequal sticks of ram (1gb and 2gb) you will get a total of 3gb but you lose some of the dual processing abilities and advantages inherent in new systems because of the non identical ram chips. Is this true? or is my buddy wrong. Thanks for the help by the way.

Indeed, you need two sticks of at least the same capacity to run dual channel, preferably the same speed as well.

That's a pretty good price on the Patriot, yggdrasil. Factoring in the conversion rate (which is even a little unfair since the CAD has risen so much recently) it's about 15% cheaper.

If you mean by dual channel capability, Intel have introduced Intel Flex Memory Technology that can enable dual channel memory in non identical pair system.

So it is indifference whether you have identical size installation or not.

ok so does the T61 have this new intel flex technology that will allow me to have dual memory rates even though I've got mismatched ram sticks?: (the same speed but different capacities)

I wouldn't get so hung up on dual channel memory. Is it better? Sure. Will you notice? Probably not. The difference is so miniscule as to be unnoticeable for most things.
