I ordered a T60p on 04/13 with an estimated ship date of 05/09. With Santa Rosa due out shortly, I decided to cancel the order yesterday 05/04 and re-order after the new models come out. Besides, I got an email with some better prices than I got and it's too good to pass up.
Anyhow, when I called to cancel the order, they said it was possible that the order would still ship and the best thing to do is accept delivery and then call them for a return pickup at no cost to me. I asked why they couldn't stop shipment and she said that the plant in China was closed for the week and it's possible mine is already packed and awaiting shipment.
I also asked why there was such a delay in getting it shipped - estimated shipping on the date I placed my order was 04/26 - and she said there was a shortage of the LCD's.
I'm a little disappointed that Lenovo is not managing their high level order fulfillment better than this and I'm considering alternatives. I'm really interested in something that has a better LCD than the one that Lenovo is currently using. The flexview was OK, but just marginally. I got rid of my T43 because the screen was so dim and average.
Is there no high end laptops out there that can offer a great screen?

Good choise.
I would wait for the T61 and buy that one. The new T6x line features a special screen that some people call the best screen in the world for notebooks.
So best thing to do is to wait I guess. -
Most factories in China are closed down for the week for the May 1st holiday.
I once ordered an advanced dock. But then changed my mind. When I called, I was told the dock may still ship. I just accepted the delivery, and called Lenovo for a return pickup. UPS came the next day, and my credit card was credited within 10 days. I was not responsible for any shipping charges. -
It's just me but I would not have cancelled. There's now way i'm buying a T61 Santa Rosa laptop for $1345.55, which is what I paid for my loaded T60 at a savings of $633.
Even if you decide to pay more I would shudder to think how long the shipping delays will be for a Santa Rosa laptop. Those that have concerns about the screens, i've seen 15.4 Thinkpads at Staples and the screens look great.

I've had a T60 IPS screen and a T43 14.1 without the IPS screen and there is no way I want a laptop with a screen as bad as the T43. I got rid of it because the screen was so poor.
I've actually got a link to a lenovo site that offers a better discount than I got on their regular site. I also have a coupon code for an extra 5% discount. As soon as the T61's are announced and on the site, I'll re-order and I'm sure I'll get a discount pretty close to what I had. -
I understand. Would you mind sharing with us your fabulous linkage to the Lenovo site?
-
Not at all. I'm glad you asked.

In addition, if you enter USAICPA5OFF as the coupon code, you'll get another 5% off. -
Thanks for the info. The link gives you the same discount as IBM shareholder, but the 5% off helps.
-
Nice discount, just a little bit higher than I paid going through SPP a week ago for the same config. If I hadn't already ordered, this would be my choice. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the info. I've come to realize what a great deal I got when I used the shareholders link a couple of weeks ago. Now if only Lenovo can ship my T60 i'll be one happy camper.

There's an explanation for the display shortage here. Basically LCD manufacturers are shifting away from IPS for cost reasons, and the only supplier left (that Lenovo is currently using) is unreliable.
The new T/R 61s would not use IPS displays, so the quality might be a bit lower than the T60s, but should still be decent (judging by the LCDs in other recent notebooks). -
Thanks for sharing that with us. It helps to explain the delays.

Quick question that discount link that was supplied, is there anyway for Canadians to get in on that deal?
-
No idea. I'm a CPA (certified public accountant) and it this is one of the perks we get for belonging to the American Institute of CPA's. Not sure what would happen if you ordered using this link and then had it shipped to Canada, but I'd guess it would go through.

hmm as far as I know you are not allowed to ship to Canada from the American site, maybe I should check it out
Canceled T60p order - does this sound right?
