Will my warranty be void if I buy a new HD and exchange that for the HD that came with the laptop?

I don't think it will void the warranty. I'm sure this also applies with RAM.

No, the HDD is a Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU), but they won't cover the new drive.
On the other hand, since you wouldn't send your HDD along with the system for service unless it was part of the problem, how would they know? -
The first thing I repaced was my hard drive and the warranty was still good.
