Hi everyone. I finally got my R52 (well, the wait was only a week after the order was placed actually). Great piece of equipment and I like it. Bought one of them 1.86ghz, x300 60gb computers.

Aaanyways, I discovered something which is a tad annoying. At the bottom left and right there are discoloring; The screen darkens. Now, I wonder if this is something which could be fixed via the guarantee or if I'll end up having it returned to me + an inspection bill and a note saying that they didn't find that the error was big enough.

I took a couple of images with my digicam this morning. They're kinda big (0.5mb each). Anwyays, it would be great to get some input regarding this matter. Perhaps someone else's experienced this kinda problem.

It's not notable, but from the bottom right/left there is a slight discoloration stretching roughly 3cm upwards as well

It appears to be a known problem. I've seen some threads about it at the Thinkpad forums - http://forum.thinkpads.com

As far as I know, it is considered "normal" and you won't get your screen replaced. However:

I have the same darkening at the corners, but it's much smaller - it only affects the tiny corner normally occupied by the Windows taskbar (start button and clock). It's completely not bothersome. Your discoloration seems much longer and more bothersome, so maybe they will consider your case abnormal.

Doesn't hurt to ask the tech support guys I think.

Hey, thanks for the replies guys!

Wow, I was totally oblivious of this one common error. I ran soem searches on the thinkpads.com forum and found some posts where users had the same problem with darkened colors the size of the start menu buttom/clock area. Seems like the flexview's got some problems (or had, atleast) as well.

Ahh well. it's not that I can't live with it. I was thinking that since Thinkpads are professional built machines in general a screen error would be quite rare.

Anyways, I'm gonna look around some more and see if I can get a hold of a Lenovo technician.
