I own the IBM T42 and have owned it for about 2-3 months only.

However, suddenly, without dropping it or anything at all, the area where my right palm rests when I am typing, the area to the right of the touchpad, is making noises.

You know how when a house gets old, when you take the stairs the wood would bend a little and make that haunted house sound? Well, it's not that extreme, but that's what I am getting from my laptop when my hand rests at that area.

I guess it's called flex. When I push down, the keyboard actually flexes along.

Has this happened to anyone else? I thought IBM laptops are supposed to be built like tanks! Any idea what has gotten loose inside, and how I could possibly fix it?

I'd send it in for repair, that doesn't sound normal.

Well, my T42, also a couple months old, has quite a bit of flex on the palmrests too. It's not that disturbing to me, though, as it's clearly made of plastic anyway. I don't think it's broken, in any case.
