Do thinkpad warranty upgrades/extensions go on sale often?

When I orderd my X230t I went with the 1 year depot service. With the swivelling screen and all I would feel more comfortable with a 2 to 3 year onsite plan.

A few weeks back Lenovo had a sale on warranty plans and I regret not making the most of that (30% to 40% off regular prices if I am not mistaken).

Any chance they will come back?

Right now I have been quoted $219 for 3 year onsite. (During the sale I remember seeing it for $150-$159)

I'm wondering this too. Looking for a base 3-yr warranty. It was like $59 with the B&N checkout but I got an extra battery instead (X230 tablet).

    Does calling and haggling work?

Call them up and ask for the sale price. They might deal and if they say no, you're just right back where you are now.

What I want to know is how good is the warranty service since all I've experienced with Lenovo is long wait times on the phone. Is the same true for warranty service?

I have good experiences with Lenovo's depot repair during the 4 years I had my X61T. Shipping back and forth is very quick too. From the day I ship mine to the depot, I got it back in 5-7 business days. They do scuff the lid and exterior sometimes, but then I call back and send it out again, and they would replace whatever part again (keyboard / hinge cover / palm rest / and even the lid). I really liked that they even send out motherboard so I can replace it myself, but that was back couple years ago. I believe they don't do that any more and only ship out CRU parts.

Thinkpad tech support for hardware is a separate line (call center at Georgia) from other home systems such as Ideapads so it is very quick to get through most of the times. Try calling them near midnight or after hours. The post-sales team is really hard to reach though.

This is the very reason I want to get onsite service over depot service. Even if they do replace the scuffed parts, the added hassle of sending the system in again and the downtime is not worth it. I had such an experience with my T410s the one time I had to send it in to the depot and don't want to go through it again.
This is not to say that the onsite technician will never scuff anything but, with you being there while he fixes things he/she might not take the same liberties someone at the depot might.

Overall, I've been pleased with warranty service, especially on-site.

As for the extensions/upgrades, if you have the part number of the warranty upgrade that you're interested in, Google it and you'll come up with places that sell it for less than if you were to buy it directly from Lenovo in most cases.

I've also had good luck haggling with Lenovo reps in the past, once I had the actual info on how much the upgrade was going for elsewhere...obviously, YMMV.

    Happy hunting.
