Y 530
Intel® Core 2 Duo processor T6400 ( 2GHz 800MHz 2MB )
Intel Integrated Graphics X4500
4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz
320GB 5400 rpm
Is it average, above average, or junk
-
-
It depends on what you would like to do with the notebook
For regular usage it should be fine (emails, browsing the web, school work etc) -
i would say its average .. pretty good processor for the average user .. 4gb ram definitely great .. and the integrated video card is okay .. nothing hoohaa, basic

Almost all laptops don't suck, they blow (put your hand by the fan's exhaust vent).
John -
processor - average
video card - junk (comparing with all video cards and not only with integrated video cards)
ram - above average
disk - average in terms of speed and above average in terms of space
So, I'd say average.
But, for emails, browsing the web, school work, etc., I'd say above average. -
It all depends on your usage. Who cares about the video card if you don't play games? Processor...most people don't even need this much power anyway. RAM, 4GB is a bit of a waste on a 32bit OS but you still get to use about 3GB (which is fine for everyone). Disk? - Upgrade for cheap on your own if you don't like it.
-
lol, at least you can play HL2 alright on that integrated video card. Intel has gotten better. That thing is gold compared to my old Intel Extreme Graphics 2, and still a lot better than a GMA 950 (if you want to talk Intel graphics).
+1 for average on the whole though.
btw once I tried to make my laptop suck, but I shorted the fan.. that computer was toast; though it was alright as a word processing machine until it refused to turn on. -
Yeah, ur right, it does blow blow pretty hot too
Nice, it is 64 bit so the extra gb of ram isn't wasted -
oh yeah, i don't play games at all on the computer, i don't even own any pc games, i either play it on a console or just play some random internet games
-
i think its a great laptop. how much are you paying for it?
-
Then if anything that is a great laptop. Since you won't be needed to play games that laptop could last you many years with as much RAM it has and the processor speed isn't half bad either. Trust me, look at my current computer in my signature, I know low end computers.
-
only $594 for laptop+tax+shipping
WOW, ur laptops are killer, 4 years ago all the way through last year, i was using a toshiba satellite with an intel celeron m cpu, 512 mb ram, and 40gb hard drive -
The T500 should be coming in tomorrow. The iBook I have been using for 2-3 years now, and was used at that point. It was never a hoss, but it has definitely served me well.
-
well, that T500 is gonna be way better than the Y530
-
If you do not play games on it, you are fine with what you have, should be great for normal uses.
-
Yeah, but I am going to need it for Engineering and some possible games. So for our uses yours is comparatively better.
-
I also have another question, my dad has a W500 and it's around $2000, the Y530 is $600, the W500 only has 2 gb of ram and the Y530 has double that, why is it that the W500 is over 3 times as expensive? I know the CPU and GPU are much better but i don't think they're good enough to be worth $1400 extra.
-
i think differently
-
The W500 is a much, much better built laptop.
-
RAM is only one component of the laptop.
When you buy, you basically say that you pay for, the laptop base and then add on top of that the CPU, RAM, graphics processor upgrade (if it is an option), hard drive, optical drive, wireless, software.
In the end, the cost of the W500 base (case, motherboard, screen, keyboard etc) is more expensive (not to mention better), than the Y530. -
It depends on the CPU of the W500. If it's a 2.8 GHz, it could well be most of that cost. The W500 also has workstation graphics, which means it is dedicated for 3D modeling, which is several hundred more expensive than an integrated card. The W500 is a ThinkPad as well. Like Apple, Lenovo charges a slight premium for the ThinkPad name. I think it also has to do with the internal construction. IdeaPads are consumer grade notebooks and so are not as sturdy as ThinkPads, which have an internal roll cage.
Just my thoughts. -
My GF got the Y530 (think it is the same model number) and the thing is freaking awesome. I love my Thinkpad, but in a way I'm jealous. She spent 50% of what I did and the quality of her machine is quite nice. Yeah, Thinkpad's are built a lot better, but price to performance and build quality ratio, those Ideapad's are a heck of a deal. It sounds like you'll have all the power that you need and it should last you a really long time. Congrats on your purchase.
Btw, I still will only buy Thinkpads, I just admire her Ideapad.
Does my laptop suck?
