I ordered my T400 w/ Vista 64 but am now thinking that I should have started w/ XP Pro. I did order the XP recovery DVD with my system. Will I need to reformat the hard drive to switch to XP?
-
No, no, no you made the right decision with vista originally
-
OK, that reassures me. But, am I going to have any problems using remote desktop from the Vista 64 to an XP Pro computer on the same network?
-
Not really a problem but you will have to check a box that says "allow connections to computers running an earlier version ..." as XP doesn't have some Remote security feature of Vista/7. However, if you check the box and save settings, you shouldn't have any trouble.
-
OK, Thanks! I should have mentioned XP Pro 32, is the answer the same? I plan on connecting to the older desktop from the T400.
-
32 v 64 bit makes no difference with RDP...
-
I'd second what john says. There was no xp 64-period so it was all xp-32.
-
Not true. Windows XP Pro 64-Bit. However, the 64-bit version was rare and I don't recommend it because driver support is awful.
-
Ditto. Oh and OP stick with vista, it is better all around then XP.
-
Vista is the way to go. And you could save yourself all this trouble and worrying and just use a program called Team Viewer, which is free and sets up a perfect remote desktop connection every time, regardless of which Windows is installed on either end.
