I will be buying a Thinkpad in the near future and was wondering if I can format the HDD and install XP on it without much hassle. Does the notebook come shipped with driver CDs? Or if I have to search for them on the Levono website, can I locate all the drivers fairly easily?
I've formatted the HDD on my desktop several times, is the process the same with a laptop?
Thanks in advance.

Don't you mean upgrading to XP from Vista?
-
Does the notebook come shipped with driver CDs? - NO
Or if I have to search for them on the Levono website, can I locate all the drivers fairly easily? - YES, if there are such drivers. For example, there is no XP driver for turbo memory on T61 and - allegedly - for Nvidia graphics.
You didn't specify which Thinkpad you're talking about -
I'll be getting either the T60 or T61, for sure without the turbo memory and most likely without the fingerprint reader.

If I were you, I'd get T60. You can orger it with XPP or even XP home

well if he already has a copy of xpp then why not get a copy of vista for about a year from now when it might be ok to work with ?

If I am not mistaken, he is not exactly getting copy of Vista with his laptop but preinstalled Vista. Once he reformats drive for XP, Vista is gone. So why even bother?
