Hello, Middleton!
I am registered here just to say you big THANK YOU for Fn-Ctrl swap patch. I read somewhere first that Lenovo supports officialy swap from ThinkPad 410 and I have T400. I was so angry and sad. But then I found this thread and now I am so happy. Now my keboard is absolutely fine. Just like I want to be.
You made my day! Thank You very much again.

Hello Middleton, I just used your EC hack to swap the FN Ctrl keys on my T400 - it worked like a charm. I wanted to say thank you and at least send you a Starbucks card or something. The fact that develop these w/o compensation is admirable - I used you fix and feel in debt to you. You just pulled a big thorn out of my side.....

The BIOS flash for the Ideapad U450P is no longer on the mediashare server. Does anyone have a copy they can upload? Thanks!

I'm thinking of updating my x61s to a SSD. If I download the Middleton bios will it automatically swap my CTRL and FN keys?

Thanks For your work, it helped me a lot, i actually own 2 thinkpad (X60 and X200) that use both your patchs. Great work. I have suggestion that you make another thread to teach other people, how did you do. Thanks Again !

Hi Middleton, I registered here because I want to change the Wifi card on my X60-R1706 to Intel 4965 or 5100 card. Would you please send me your BIOS to bypass FRU 1802 error! Thank you very very much for your great help! You are the God of this forum!

It has been a year since I applied FN-CTRL swap and I would like to give a little feedback. Well to put it shortly, everything has been working perfectly. The hardware had no glitch of any kind at all, and the software itself works surprisingly smooth as well (it is my first machine on window7).
I would like to say thank you again. It would have been a different year if I hadnt used FN-CTRL swap. Have a great new year -
Hello,
I flashed my X61 tablet with the FN-CTRL swap version 1.25 and I'm trying to revert to the regular Lenovo BIOS. In short, nothing worked. I tried removing the battery and holding the power button, flashing from a boot disk and every BIOS file available. The swap is permanent...
How do I reset the EC? Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks -

hi, where can I download file bios file "winuptp.exe"?

Hi,
When I bought my S10 netbook, I used the update and swapped my CRTL and FN keys. Now I have a SL510 ThinkPad and I want to swap it's keys too but when I try to update my bios I get "Driver Loading failure. The Utility cannot proceed." message. I read almost all pages of this post, I think there should be 2 bios files, one with .FL1 other with .FL2 extension. The RAR files doesn't include the FL2 file, is this causes to my problem? -
I solved the problem. I haven't checked my operating system (my company recently gave this) and tried to apply the 32 bit version of the update and failed. Today, I checked my operating system and tried the 64 bit version, keys were succesfully swapped. Thanks again middleton!

I don't know about other bioses, but at least with T500/W500 bios there are two huge problems:
1. It is a VERY old BIOS, from 2010 or even 2009, while the latest Lenovo bios for those models - a bios that fixes a lot of issues - is from end of 2012. There has been nearly 10 bios releases since the version given in this thread.
2. IT DOES NOT WORK! I flashed it (even though it is an old bios) and the Fn-Ctrl buttons still remain unswapped. -
Worked with Lenovo S10, thank you!
*only 1 thing - laptop stuck after flashing bios, so I had to put battery out for rebooting -
Hello!
I'm sorry for my english ...
I Y500 laptop with a modification off "white list" of network cards.
You could modify this bios to change the keys?
Here is a link with disabled "white list" BIOS:

Could add the shift key? -
Hi,
Could anyone make this Fn CTRL swap in the newest BIOS for Lenovo X200?
I use this modded BIOS 3.14-1.06. Works well and big respect for the makers. But I thi nk there are lots of real improvement in newest BIOS, so I would like to install it, also I need the Fn CTRL swap option.
If someone could do that or at least recommend someone it would be great. Maybe I could pay a few bukcs for it.
Thanks,
Blueeight -
Have you tried installing new lenovo bios on top of the old modded bios? I had similar problem on W500 and for me, the FN+ctrl swap sticked after bios upgrade.
-
Hi,
Unfortunately it did not help. I have installed the newest BIOS (3.22-1.07) and the Fn CTRL keys swapped back :-(.
I do not know what to do now. Use the newest BIOS with CTRL on wrong place, or use very old BIOS with CTRL button on good place.

You could contact Middleton to tell him the usual trick didn't work, and if he'd be kind enough to roll out updated bioses.
-
Hi!
I have installed the newest BIOS (3.22-1.07). Unfortunately the Fn-CTRL swap gone :-( . -
Hi, I also have X200. It does not work anymore because they updated the ECP (Embedded Controller Program) to version 1.07, the swap works only with 1.06.
However we can still have the latest BIOS (3.22) but only with ECP 1.06.
So what I did, I downgraded to 3.14, than reapplied the patched BIOS and than upgraded to 3.22-1.06 where the swap still works.

Anyway, I cannot install any of the B IOSs.

The log says:

Swap fuction in my Thinkpad R61 work well. thank you. :hi2:

If the windows update (WINUPTP.EXE) doesn't work for you, there is an option to patch the ISO file from Lenovo.
I described this method here: Cristian Adam's: Lenovo Fn-Ctrl Swap
You need to have the original bios file (something like $0a6a000.fl1), the patched file and the ISO file! -
I can't find instructions for WINUPTP so I don't know what I might have done wrong. I ran it from the hard drive at the command line in the same directory as everything else in the middleton .RAR package, with no parameters
Thanks, -PaulLast edited: Jan 26, 2015 -
Thank you dude, it worked perfectly and I created this account just to express that and my gratitude to you! I was super bummed upon finding out that as a Lenovo Thinkpad w500 user Lenovo just never gave the computer the ability to swap the keys straight from the bios, unlike from my understanding all of the Thinkpads that proceed it. My hand was hurting from the first day I tried using it- and only lightly at that since all I was doing was installing, updating and configuring programs and settings(and system restoring a LOT since I was having trouble with my drivers) and I was really on the fence about whether or not using this laptop for likely many, many years would be worth it just because of the function key's replacing the ctrl key placement. Then I discovered this! It's amazing! I thought I screwed myself on my own too, because when I received this laptop yesterday the bios was from 2009 but I updated it to the latest- 2012- version as I saw a user on another website claim that the W500 is among those that come with the ability to swap ctrl and function keys built into the bios. The user was wrong... I should have done more research, and then I'd have found you and definite confirmation that the claim that enticed me was wrong. I thought I ruined my laptop's experience for myself but you have and provided a method to get around my updating my bios, which was awesome. Thank you so much. I read the first four or so pages of this thread before just deciding to go through with updating using your methods, and I saw that you lost motivation to do this type of stuff with Thinkpads, but you are grateful that your work is appreciated. I definitely appreciate it too! This totally changes how I feel about my laptop and will feel about it for the better for so far into the future. Thank you dude.

Grand merci, middleton!
I have Lenovo ThinkPad R61 8920.
I solved the problem Fn-Ctrl, but it was difficult.
There is no way to archive BIOS. I found it here.
There need an image #2.img in a folder "BIOS update + CTRL-FN swap". Born CD or DVD and boot from this disk.
Sorry for Google Translate. ) -
Could anyone explain to me step by step how to install this? I have the t400 thinkpad and I use excel, and shortcuts in general quite often. However, I don't know *anything* about bios', coding etc and I don't want to download it until I know what's going to happen next.
Thank you for doing this by the way, middleton, really appreciated! I bought a refurbished t400 and it was one of the first things I noticed. I'm glad you have a fix -
Hi,
I have Lavie Z and I don't have the option of swapping Fn Ctrl... Any solution for this (because I didn't found my series in the first post).
One more thing: is there a way to change the FWD Space button, next to backspace, with another backspace. I hit that by mistake like a million times. I tried some apps but they ended up disabling my space bar too!
Thanks -
How to Swap Fn and CTRL keys in Lenovo E40-80 i5 Laptop? As Physical swap is not possible due to key size difference.
I have tried the possible methods like looking at BIOS, as suggested by other forums. But the BIOS in my laptop doesn't have Configuration for Keyboard or anything else.
Please provide some workaround if anyone has! -
Works perfect on T400, thanks!
Here's how to flash it:
I'm running Windows 8.1 and the flash.bat didn't work, so I open the WINUPTP.EXE file located in the same directory and follow the instructions, wait a minute or so to finish, reboot and you're done! -
FN-Ctrol swap is pointless.
A better and easier swap would be CapLock-Ctrol swap. Much better result, because out of all three buttons, the caplock is the least used one.
