I ordered it and here are the specs:

And I'll be getting 2GB Ram from NewEgg afterwards!
I'll be doing Pre-Lim stuff, once I get it, from this thread:

Battery stuff from this thread:

Vista tweaks according to this thread:

Any recommendations such as changes to the set up I have all ready to go and order or other links that help with a first time user of a ThinkPad?
EDIT: This is custom build, not a preconfigured set up!
Updated since I ordered
-
looks good to me =D
hope you love your t400 -
Congrats on making this far! My suggestion? Ditch the beta operating system thats known as Vista and don Windows 7 ASAP!
-
I am about to order my T400 too. Try if you can save some money using the Promo Code of USPBANNERS.

The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso
Add bluetooth. Such a small cost and so much utility. I thought I would never use it and I was wrong. It is so nice with Bluetooth mice.
-
That's a workhorse of a system. Despite that, the battery should give you decent life, I would guess over 6-7 hours depending on usage. I agree with the suggestion of adding Bluetooth.
-
I would suggest getting NIS2009 separately, because first of all, you will not (or should not) be using NIS2009 for three years. There will be newer versions released. Second of all, you can probably get a triple-license for less money than Lenovo is selling it to you for.
Other than that, good configuration! -
@The Fire Snake -
I will definitely consider the bluetooth feature before I pull the trigger but I still am wondering when I will really use it. When I'm on the go or I'm just doing simple tasks (such as web browsing or word documents) I would be 100% fine using the trackpoint/touchpad. When I'm doing things like gaming I would be fine just using a USB wired/wireless gaming mouse. And I'm aware that the T400 comes with 3 USB ports so I would probably use one for a mouse, one for a flashdrive, and then one left open for maybe a printer or charging my phone. Also, I'm going to be at a desk most of the time at school so I might need extra space for paperwork instead of a mouse. I realize that $20 is not much for an upgrade but I'm trying to save bits of the money I have lol. Thoughts?
@Midnight Sun -
I am downgrading to either a 15-month or two-year subscription. The 15-month is about $30 (from what I remember) and the two-year is about $58. I know that Fry's has a $20 copy of a 12-month subscription with three licenses but I don't really have much use for two extra licenses. Also, I would prefer not to wait for a rebate and pay for shipping, unless they have that deal in-store. My only other computer would be a desktop (2.0ghz, 50gb HDD, 512mb RAM) which is almost useless at this point . Thoughts?
Sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes, I am posting this from my phone. -

Total cost including tax is $1,047.74. I have ordered another 2GB DIMM from Neweggs. Hopefully this will work well for me -
-
It is Kingston KTL-TP1066/2G (Assembled in Cihna). By the way, the USPBANNERS worked for me with 10% discount.
-
I'll have to look into that 2GB. And hmmm I can't seem to use the USPBANNERS code.. I'll try a different CPP website.
-
I am using the USPBANNERS in the lenovo website. So maybe you have already got a better deal with your CPP website
-
I ordered as of five minutes ago! Here was my final set up:
By the way, the estimated shipping is 9/11 but I heard Lenovo ships much earlier than that. I live in Northern California, when should I expect it? And when should I receive the confirmation email? -
Last time when I ordered from Lenovo in May, order confirmation was received 3 hours later. Maybe because it is Sunday today, I haven't received Lenovo's confirmation either after 10 hours.

The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso
-
@The Fire Snake -
I went ahead and ordered the Bluetooth. Hopefully it will be useful later on -
Just got Lenovo's email confirmation today with est shipment 9/11.
-
^Just got my confirmation an hour ago! Just time to wait now
-
Just got an email from Lenovo notifying that shipment has been made. This is pretty fast - just 3 days after my order on Sunday. Hope that it could arrive before the Labor days holidays
-
Edit: And they haven't even shipped out my Privacy filter or Trackpoint Cap Collection. I have a feeling that I unknowingly selected for them to be shipped all at once lol. -
Yes, faster than I have expected. Hope that this is not just for the Privacy filter
And, instead of ordering the Trackpoint Cap, I have just ordered a Logitech V470 Bluetooth Cordless Laser Mouse. Thinkpad's Trackpoint is very nice but for prolong usage, I would still prefer the mouse
-
-
On returning home from work, I found the Privacy filter already delivered to my home
-
My T400 order was placed on Aug-28, and today, Sept-3, I got a shipping email confirmation already. It's very surprising to be honest how fast this was(by Lenovo standards that is). I was all ready for a month-long ordeal.
And I know this shipment is for the laptop itself because I opted to not get the privacy filter. -
I ordered my T400 on Aug 30, and have the UPS tracking information as follow:
Location Date Local Time Description
CN 09/02/2009 9:00 P.M. DEPARTURE
09/02/2009 2:00 P.M. RECEIVED INTO UPS SCS POSSESSION
09/03/2009 1:32 A.M. BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED
This is for the T400 as it is 3.6Kg and I have already received the Privacy filter yesterday. There is, however, no scheduled delivery date shown in the UPS tracking site so I am not sure when will the shipment is expected to arrive. I have no idea what location CN is either. Looks like I am not going to have my T400 before the Labor holidays. But again, it is pretty fast already, almost like Lenovo have the stocks there already available for shipping it out -
Ordered: Sunday night, 8/31
Shipped: Thursday morning, 9/03 -
And I think CN is referring to CHINA
-
Thanks Koreo. Yes, I forgot that Thinkpads are now assembled in China. So, a realistic expectation for the delivery would be same as yours - 9/9 to 9/10.
-
Wow, you guys got yours fast.
I ordered mine aug 31 and nothing has shipped yet. Ic alled them they said wait two weeks before they even ship it out of china! -
Hi Google19, welcome to our T400 new users group! Since we are ordering at about the same time, I assume you will be getting the shipment confirmation very soon
Probably we have more to share too when we got our machine and start playing around with it .. backing up the system, getting rid of bloatwares, figuring out new drivers .. etc. -
Ya definatly. This wait is painful for me because I am already unsure if I got the right laptop , I am still wondering if the t400s was a better decision due to its weight. I will be carrying my notebook everyday.
-
for me its worth the extra 300 -400 dollars, you do feel the difference in weight, also the height makes it much easier to carry it in the backpack
I got my under 1250 going through american express daily wish, right now T400s starts at 1299, there is also a 5% off coupon -
I think it depends on how much walking you have to make everyday. To me, I am used to carrying two (occasionally three) notebooks to work everyday so weight is not a key factor unless it is indeed too heavy. This, however, is possible because my walking distance to work is limited to about 5 minutes everyday. If you have to walk a lot with your notebook and you are not interested in taking that as a daily workout, then maybe you should consider the alternative

Looks like my T400 has arrived US and is getting closer to me now

haha, are we in amazing race? I assume shipments are not going to continue during weekend and Labor holidays ....
Just wonder where in US they are sitting now -
How the hell do you guys track yours. The lenovo site doesnet respond to me. My order number is longet than 6 letters lol.
-
-
Ya I got an email saying it shipped, but in order status it says invoiced but then gives refrence #
-
-
and whats the UPS site to track? Cause mine doesent work on the regular UPS canada site. I swear it bring up information for a shoe form zippos.com that has already been shipped a month ago.
-
-
In my case, as I have ordered directly from the Lenovo web site, the order status given to me in the https://www.lenovoorders.com//orderstatus/ include a link for "track shipment". That brings me to the UPS tracking page.
And, my T400 is still moving. I was given the Scheduled Delivery Date for the very first time in the UPS site which is 09/08/2009. I believe it could have been delivered 9/7 if not of the Labor Day holidays because the shipment has already arrived NJ. Getting it one week after ordering is much better than I have expected.
