THe thing is the lenovo website doesnot work for me since my order number is bigger than 6 letters...
-
1) Call Lenovo
2) Pick the option most suitaable
3) Tell the person you want tracking numbers
4) They will ask for your order number / customer number
5) Get a pen and paper
6) Voila!
Edit: And my laptop hasn't moved since customs, but my privacy filter is in my city wooo! -
i saw ups... and copy and pasted the number onto ups.com and im tracking it
-
I have the 3M Privacy filter installed in my DELL D630. Not sure if I would like to keep using it as it seems to have lowered the screen brightness quite a bit, and increased the glare with its reflective surface
-
Ya but lenovo is closed till tuesday I think, so I cant get tracking by then.
-
-
Yes, mine too. It should have been sitting in the NJ UPS facility for 3 days due to the long weekend. I would have preferred to pick it up myself on Sat if UPS could provide such services
Now, final countdown ... one day
-
FINALLY! I can track mine. Mine is sitting in MISSISSAUGA, ON. And this is what it has done so far.
And mine is in a package with 120 other laptops. -
Dang this 3-day weekend is killing me. I hope I get my lappy by Friday, gah!
-
Got a call from UPS that a package will be coming tomorrow, and they want us to make sure there is someone at home 7am to 7pm for signing off the delivery
-
The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso
-
Thanks Fire Snake. Yes, I don't want UPS to leave at the front steps either. I will have to go to work tomorrow but my wife will be at home to collect it (actually this T400 is for her). Just that 7am to 7pm is too wide a time span. It would be better if UPS can narrow it down to, say, in the morning or in the afternoon.

I wonder how long it's going to take for the package to get moving? It's been stuck like that since Friday morning. Do you think it's still stuck in customs or maybe I'm just being impatient and paranoid hah -
Hmmm, my order UPS status hasn't changed since last Friday:

Im glad they finally brough back the led wxga+
-
Fortunately, mine is moving .. even though not yet delivered ..
Seems like the package has been sitting in the UPS truck for 3 days from 9/5 to 9/8 based on the tracking report

From the tracking report, your package should have already cleared the custom .. I think the next step should be a PICKUP SCAN and a DEPARTURE SCAN from the UPS hub at the airport. Maybe there are too many packages got stucked there due to the long holidays and therefore, will take a longer time to clear out the queue ....

Latest update: finally, my T400 arrived ... 8 days after my order !
Now, I have to start reading the thread on "I orderd my T400 what should i do when i get it" .. ;-) -
OK, I have unpacked the box. First impression is that the Power adapter is much smaller than that of my previous Thinkpad notebooks. That's good. After I have inserted the battery pack, I found out that I have made a mistake. I have thought that only 9 cells battery will protrude out, now I know 6 cells battery have the same issue. I should have ordered the 4 cells battery. My mistake. Maybe I shall leave the battery out of the notebook at home ...
-
I am about to order my wife the T400 and I doubt she will ever have to rely just on the battery so based on what you're saying I may just also get the 4 cell. -
Another founding: Adding memory in T400 turned out to be more difficult than my other notebooks. I have to remove the palm rest before I can access the memory slots. Good that this is pretty much a one time job.
-
I don't have a camera with me now, but it is protruding out by about 1" x 8.5" at the back. It do not look good to me. I should have ordered the 4 cell battery as my wife will mostly be using it at home too.
-
well look what I found....!
Doesn't look too good!
This guy says....construction-wise...it's "Cheap-Cheap"!

Received my privacy filter today, waiting on laptop to get to California.
Also, the privacy filter seems very wide and narrow, like a widescreen. Is it supposed to be like that? I'm positive the T400 screen is not shaped that way. -
The size of battery has been well documented here:
http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T50...2;jsessionid=2D782B264550A83D4787A123ECCCBD4F -
My T400 screen size is 12" x 7.5", exactly the same size as my Dell D630
-
Yes, I should have done more research on this. Now, I can only tell my wife that I ordered the 6 cells battery because it can last longer and is better .. haha..
-
Btw, I think it's very nice how the screen is adjusted to perfectly fit the priv.filter without any tape! -
Sorry that I have the privacy filter installed on my Dell D630 already and since it is not that easy to install it, I would rather leave it there. As the T400 screen size is identical to that of the Dell D630, I am sure that the Privacy filter will fit perfectly on the T400 without any need of tape.
By the way, I have the hi nit LED screen and it is indeed very bright. Much brighter than that of my Sony SZ320P which is already pretty bright to me.
-
I think it's a good medium between the flush-fitting 4-cell, and the giant-protruding 9-cell.
-
-
I have finished setting up Windows and creating the recovery discs. Took me 3 DVDs and over 2 hours.
No problem with the RAM upgrade. T400 recognized the additional 2GB RAM automatically. No hassle.
So far so good. Wireless connection work well. My T400 comes with Vista Home Premium which is 32 bit version. I am downloading Comodo Free Firewall & AVG Free Antivirus now. -

Which, btw, is exactly the same as yours (what the ... lol) but mine has yet to reach California! Ahhh!!!! -
I installed the RAM before powering up the T400. I thought that will make the Window setup and extraction faster
-
Yay! UPS finally updated; scheduled delivery for 9/10/09. Excellent, right when I get home from school it will be in my room!
-
Just got my R400 (it's sorta the same so may as well post
). Set-up my Windows etc. ok only issue of such is that there is loads of bloatware (I mean seriously I have a 160 GB HDD and you've given it to me with only 110 to use that's taking the TBH). And it seems a bit slower compared to my computer was when new. I guess that's just because there's so much bloatware though. Those s are coming right off and then I'm doing the recovery disks.
-
Yes, my 250GB harddisk is now having 200GB available disk space too.
I am still updating Windows .. took me 2 hours already.
I am glad that my screen has no dead spot. There is no off-center screen either.
-
On another note, the old T400 is not a widescreen right? And is the ThinkPad logo on the bottom right on the palm rest a sticker? I hope not lol.
Edit: and just to clarify, it's okay to install the additional RAM right from the package and no need to turn it on for the first time? -
Finally, your time to countdown now
Probably the trackpoint caps and the T400 are not being kept at the same location, or the parts department is being managed separately from the assembly department, and they don't bother spending the extra effort to consolidate it into one shipment.
If a screen of 12" x 7.5" is considered a wide screen, then yes
As you want, the Thinkpad logo on the bottom right on the palm rest is not a sticker. It is engraved. The Window Vista logo and Intel Centrino logo on the bottom left are stickers
Yes, I installed the additional 2GB RAM before turning on the T400 for the first time. You have to follow the manual to remove 4 bottom screws and the palm rest before being able to access the memory slots.
Good Luck

The 3.60kg package has been out for delivery since 5:45AM but has not yet been delivered (but no destination scan?!). The privacy filter was out for delivery at around 7:45AM and got to my home around 3:00PM. But of course, not all packages are the same so I'm not fretting that much
The first thing I'm going to do after opening the box (if I really get it today) is peel the stickers! I hate having the footprints that stickers usually leave after a year or two of leaving them on. Then I will install the RAM, and then power it up! I'm sort of scared to do a clean install although I would like to (50gb of bloatware, holy $#@% lol) so I'll play around with it and uninstall crap as time goes by.
Just for reassurance, UPS usually delivers on the Scheduled Delivery Date right?
And I would have never imagined this thread becoming 10 pages long -
-
Woohoo! Came home about 30 minutes ago and saw three packages waiting there for me
the laptop, trackpoint collection (couldn't they have just used a small envelope? does it really require a box?) and zeroshock III case from amazon. what great timing! I just took a shower and now I'm about to play with it and whatnot

I'm having a lot of trouble installing the additional RAM. I am following the directions but the two small metal clips things at the end won't let me insert the RAM all the way in... help?
Oh great i just snapped one of the plastic things that has the metal notch
Okay well now i figured out how to put it in (finally) but now one of the plastic things is partially cracked ...
Ram insert diagram
| ======================= |
|-------------------------------|
|-------------------------------|
|-------------------------------|
|-------------------------------|
|-------------------------------|
|b----------------------------- d| <--- metal notches that keep RAM from springing up
The "d|" in bold is the right notch, and the d is cracked and | has fallen off... what to do
The one on the left is still good... right is just .. I'm nervous it might break off while I'm using the laptop...
Edit: Should I be worried at all? The left one is perfectly fine and the right one probably has no reason to break off just because it's cracked right? I mean there's no pressure coming at it from the side... In case the right one just breaks off all of a sudden will the left notch be enough to keep the ram down? -
Glad to know you've got your T400 but sorry to learn about your trouble with installing the RAM. I am not sure how this happen because in my case, I just insert the RAM fully into the slot at an inclined angle, push it down and then it fit. Maybe the notches of your RAM were not fully aligned with the holder .. or other .. Anyway, I think the left notch alone should be able to hold the RAM down. If you can, maybe you can try using some fast setting epoxy resin to prevent the crack from worsening .. just need to cover all surrounding parts with paper before applying the epoxy resin to the joint.
-
Also, there was a clear piece of tape that was sticking out about 1/2 inch on top where the memory edge is inserted. Is that normal or should I cut it off tomorrow?
Finally about to order my T400!
