I did a Vista business upgrade on a Lenovo Z61m and so far all is well, except when I get the welcome screen I have 2 login choices, my login where I enter my password and get in no problem. The other choice is the red IBM login icon to enroll fingerprints. I click the icon and I get the larger version if the icon that says Please login to enroll fingerprints, I click on that expecting to get a password box and I get nothing. I try to swipe my print and I get, "no prints have been registered, please login and register your prints", then back to the non-responsive login icon. I tried to use the password manager before that and I kept getting the message that there the security chip had to be cleared in the BIOS to precede. I went into the BIOS, under security, then to the embedded security chip, and did the option to clear. Now I can get into the password manager, but I can't get a login box when I click the "please login to enroll your prints". So I can't enroll them...HELP!!!!!!!!!!! I can get good print reads, I just can't login to register them.

    Thanks for any replies,
    Todd

you'll need to register your fingerprints with the system so that it has a databank of your fingerprints. There's a certain program that guides you through that.

I would be careful when messing with the BIOS.

That's my problem, I can't enroll my prints. It keeps telling me to login to enroll them, but I can't get any response when I click the icon to login, I click the red icon to login to enroll them and it is like the icon is dead. I didn't have this issue in XP PRO, I logged in and scanned my prints and all worked fine. I don't know if this is a Vista problem or a Lenovo problem or something somewhere just corrupted. Usually when I search on Google for these issues there are pages of people with the same issues, so far I can't find anything.

    Thanks for the help,
    Todd

Can you log in using your normal password?

The fingerprint scanner works perfectly in XP?

That fingerprint "login" icon is only a reminder to use your fingerprint to login. It does not do anything on its own. If you use the icon on the login screen to enroll your fingerprint, the program does not know which one is your normal account, even though you may only have one account.

You need to login to your normal user account first with your password and run the ThinkVantage Finger Print Software\User Enrollment program. Follow the program prompts and you should be set.
