If you cut the tips of your fingers (small cuts) would the fingerprint scanner be able to read them? Essentially, the question is, how sensitive is the fingerprint reader?

Well, it's always a good idea to log more than just one finger just in case. However, I highly doubt small cuts will interfere with it. Maybe it'll take more tries though. On a sidenote, your finger does have to be alive to be verified, because it also has some bio-electric thingy that I don't know much about. About the sensitivity, I've read that there is like a 1 in 250 chance for someone else's finger to pass as yours.

The scanner is kinda goofy. Some things like taking a shower will cause it not to work.

Right, the trick is to train several fingers, two at the absolute minimum. A small cut might or might not trip it up, but as noted, a wet or dirty finger can be a problem.

Since we are on the topic of the finger print scanner,

is it possible to use the fingerprint scanner for other purposes such as replacing other passwords(email etc)

if so how can we go about doing this .

    Thanks in advance

Yes I believe it is although I personally do not use it for other passwords.

Download the free IBM Client Security Software. Select the one with the Password Mananger. You will remove it after you use it anyway. It requires you to scan your finger then enter the pass phrase manually before you can access it. I use Roboform. Nobody can boot up my TP without my fingerprint/pass phrase when it boots up, I don't know why the darn program would require me to enter the pass phrase manually again.
