Hi all, I don't want to use the Windows OS that comes on my T61 laptop. How can I get a refund for this pre-installed OS? If I decline the liscence agreement, what do I do then?

    Thanks.

At most you probably get back ~$30. Is it worth it?

That's what I thought...I selected Vista Home Basic (saving myself $49 on my order) because I have a retail copy of Ultimate to install on the laptop when I get it...

    Unpack
    Boot from DVD
    Partition & format :)

So how is Ultimate? Is it worth it over the Home basic? I am running Home basic right now.

Ultimate is certainly better than Home Basic.
Home Premium is fairly close to Ultimate. The only thing I can think of that Ultimate has that Home Premium doesn't is the ability to join a domain. Also, Ultimate gets some small 'Ultimate Extra' features - a poker game, dremescene, Bitlocker encryption enhancements etc....

Thanks for the info on Ultimate. Actually I mistyped in my previous post, I have Home premium, not basic.

Maybe for my next computer I'll get the Ultimate :)

I use Ultimate in work and there isn't anything specific to Ultimate that I use on a daily basis....

I start with business version and rip almost everything out using vlite. It works well. There's so much junk vista comes with it's stupid. I do the same thing with XP, but XP comes with much less junk than Vista does. It's sort of like cutting out all of the fat and keeping the meat.

64-bit is available for every version (except maybe home basic???). If you buy retail Ultimate you get both 32-bit and 64 bit on the DVD included in the retail box. Otherwise, if you purchased any other retail version, you have to request the 64-bit version and pay $10 for shipping.
