Well, I thought I had decided on the Toshiba, but the IBM's are looking pretty nice. I returned a Dell 600m because its palmrest got scorching hot. Are there any models of IBM that I should avoid that have problems with the touchpad or palm rest being hot. I don't mind the bottom of the computer getting hot because I sit it on a table anyways.

Which of the notebooks would you guys suggest. I am a real estate agent and would use it in the field a lot. I would also like to NOT have shared memory on the video. What fits the bill?

    Thanks,
    Erik

Unless you are gaming or doing autocad, or something else that requires dedicated video memory, an intergrated card will work fine. You won't have any issues with watching a DVD or surfing the web. A little more system memeory is less expensive than a dedicated card. Buy it after purchase, it is usually cheaper. Having said that, I think the Fujitsu s6231 would be a good fit. It has an integrated card, but is light at about four pounds, is well built and has a very good glossy screen. Glossy screens are more vibrant and sharper, but produce a little more glare. I would check them out before you buy. If you don't like the glossy screens, the IBM T42 would be a good choice. Well built, very good service and the best laptop keyboards known to man. Right now I have the 15" version of the T42, so I can't really feel any heat from the hard drive under the palm rest. My old T41 got a little warmer running the Hitachi 7k60 7200RPM hard drive, but it was the 14" model and a little thinner. If those are a little too much, maybe the HP dv1000 would be a good choice. Good Luck.

I was robbed by a sweet little old lady on a motorized cart and I didn't even see it coming.
