By mistake my bank cancelled my order for my soon-to-be X200s. Apparently it wasn't meant to be :(

Anyway, what do you (europeans) feel about this for 1500 Euros (it's just under with a german keyboard, just over with the danish one I need):

In short it's the Thinkpad X200s NS45KGE/74695KG, and here are the specs (it's WXGA+)

Just to emphasize what I mean, my question is "Is this as cheap/good value as I think it is?":
    1.86GHz
250GB SATA 5400RPM (might upgrade this at the place I'm buying it)
2GB Ram (will be buying third party ram)
    Wi-Fi (A/G/N)
    Bluetooth
    Fingerprint reader
5-in-1 media reader (and modem) (kind of wish it was only
    9-cell battery
32-bit Vista Business (oh, and yes, I have decided to go for Vista and cross my fingers)

I'm asking this, because I can't seem to see the trees for the forest, and the one I ordered previously was almost the same, except it was 300 euros more expensive.

Nope, not a student, nor a teacher. Unfortunately. But thanks for the headsup. Do you think they'll check with a foreigner (to them)?

If you want to save some bucks get yourself a demopool-unit from ebay.co.uk (seller: demand-it). Prices start at about 930€, a danish keyboard will be ~ 60€.

That guy doesn't have the X200s. Only the X200 (without the s) @ 2.4 and 2.26ghz and a resolution of 1280X800. I am only after the X200s's with 1440X900. Well, one, to be exact. :)

Give it a try next week. Apart from this, the offer in post #1 sounds good for me as well.

    Thanks guys :)

I will order the one I posted about later today.

    FS005 (why not 007?),

I have decided against waiting. I'm sick and tired of this MBP I'm typing on right now, and I have to acknowledge (to myself) that I have never - except for once - had any luck with used equipment, even if it's just a demo-model.

I will play it somewhat safe and buy the one I posted, hoping the dk keyboard doesn't flex forcing me to buy another kb.

But, anyway, thanks a lot everyone, and also a huge – the biggest - thanks to these guys:

That's a good deal. Very good deal. It's not the computer I wan't though, nor the form (i.e. I don't want a tablet, nor a used computer).
But man, that's one helluva deal.

1500 Euros is a good deal ... best deal I can find is about 1800 Euros but includes the ultrabay but the lower res screen (1280 X 800). By the way you sure you will be able to read the letters on the 1440 x 900?

Well, kind of. Right next to me and my current 15 inch Mac with 1440x900 is a borrowed 15 inch Lifebook E Series with a resolution of 1680x1080 set to what the standard (xp thinks it's a 96dpi-screen), which leaves me with:

    Mac (MBP) DPI: 110
    Fujitsu, real DPI: 128,6
    X200s (WXGA+), DPI 140.3

Now, I can read on the fujitsu screen no problem, and although the resolution of the WXGA+ is ten percent higher, leaving me with 9 percent smaller letters, which I really wouldn't want, but we are talking about a set up with 96dpi letters. So, I tried upping the text size, and I think I can live with having to do that, although I think there is a chance I can stay with the 96dpi lettering.

But, anyway, that's the closest I have been to a 12" WXGA+ screen, so I don't really know but then again, I do need and want that resolution and battery life yet I don't want a touchpad or an optical drive, hencemy reasoning (in short) for choosing the X200s over the X301. Well, and expresscard slot, which is a necessity to me.

I saw some writings in the forum, try order lenovo.com, then use www.myus.com to ship it. I never tried it but maybe worth something?

Thanks, I actually considered something like that when I first heard of Myus about a week or so ago. But first off, I'm a bit scared using something like that, and with toll and taxes, it would be hard to match the price I got in the first post. Mind you, sales tax alone in this country is 25 percent, customs when stuff comes from the US is ... well, I can remember, but both of these things will be added to the full amount, including services, shipping and what have you. So I decided against it. I have never bought anything from the US that wasn't "caught" (I didn't try to cheat) in customs, making me pay exactly what I am supposed to.

However, I decided to buy the one in the first post in this thread. It's from Germany, and because it's from within the EU I only have to pay sales ta in the country it came from, which means a 19 percent tax included in those 1500 euros. Well, it came to 1540 euros. But that's fine.

It ought to be on the way. I should propably contact him for a tracking number.

Just for the sake of completeness, the tariff rate on import of portable computers into European Union is 0%. You would pay VAT (Value Added Tax) on import, which is however calculated not only from the declared value of imported goods but also from the cost of shipping.

Thanks dawn –I already mentioned that it is on top of shipping and whatnot. And I am pretty certain I paid something besides sales tax/VAT (MOMS in this country) the last time I ordered something from the US to be shipped to here (Denmark).
Anyway, it doesn't really matter, as the total of X computer being shipped here, including taxes would quickly pay me a ticket to go get it myself, so I decided instead to buy it from Germany, and with a danish keyboard.

I was speaking specifically about portable computers. Tariffs might be and are imposed on import of other items. I bought a T400 from the US last autumn during ThinkPad Anniversary Sale and had it delivered it to Europe -> this is where my experience comes from. I was able to get a great deal on a machine with a 3 year international warranty at that time. Even with shipping and taxes it came out around 30% cheaper. On top of that I could configure the machine exactly the way I wanted. :)

Interessting, dawn. What about warranty? Have you used it yet? I'm asking 'cause according to IWS-lokup machines beeing sold at shop.lenovo.com are usually not served in europe?

I don't want to hijack this thread... so just briefly. I've already been writing about this in a similar thread, see this post. Basically, I haven't ordered from the standard Lenovo on-line shop, which indeed doesn't offer machines with IWS. As for the warranty, I luckily haven't had a need for it so far, but I don't expect any problems. I purchased a ServicePac locally extending the standard carry-in warranty to an on-site service including ThinkPad Protection and the registration went through successfully.

Oh, that's okay. The intent of the thread is dead as it is because I was convinced by you lot it was indeed a good deal. So hijack away :)

I didn't even think about warranty until you guys mentioned it. I looked it, there is a three year [edit: bring-in] warranty on mine. That's a nice surprise coming from Macs

Edit -continued: I think I might upgrade the warranty like you did if I think it's necessary.
