....seemed like a fair trade.![]()
But seriously... I've been wanting to replace my wife's HP laptop with a Thinkpad for awhile and decided to take advantage of the USPDECSAVINGS coupon today.
Configured a T61 with T7250, 15.4 WSXGA+, 3100 graphics, 2gb/120gb, BT and DVD R/W - for about $1050 (after discount). Not to shabby for a woman who's idea of kicking ass on a computer is browsing eBay and Amazon at the same time! (as she puts it.)![]()
What sucks though is that the estimated ship date is 1/3/08 so it looks like she won't have it sitting under the tree.![]()

Don't worry too much man, those estimated ship dates are usually earlier than expected. I believe the delays were only during the Labor Day sales.
Either way, excellent choice and good luck!
Happy Holidays!

If you believe the online configuration tool, the delay is mostly attributable to the DVD R/W upgrade. Call me skeptical but I find it hard to believe that a company the size of Lenovo is still having a supply problem with such a basic component. It seems this problem has been ongoing for several months. But in any event, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that the HP doesn't crap out over the next few weeks (it's showing signs of motherboard "flex stress" - that's what finally pushed me to pull the trigger on the T61).
And Happy Holidays right back at ya'! -

Naw, I believe it. Suppliers of certain parts do have a lot of control, and I wouldn't be surprised if Lenovo is playing hardball with the suppliers in an effort to keep the prices Lenovo pays down. This is nothing compared to all the whining that Gianfranco Lanci (head of Acer) has done regarding the distribution of profits in the PC industry. See: Acer Calls for Profit Leveling. -
^^ very true. They basically call the shots esp when demand exceeds supply...kinda reminds me of back in the day when NVidia had their own list of prefered vga card makers and they'd get first dibs on the gpu supply chain..while those who have been cosy with ATi are lower on the totem pole so to speak.

I had a similar configuration minus the dvd-rw, but plus a 9-cell battery.
I had a three week delay when I ordered mine (laptop, not the wife) and it shipped 5 days later....the bigger pain was watching the laptop slowly move from China, spend a couple days in customs, drive around on a UPS truck...total time from order to delivery was 11 days--and that was with Thanksgiving in the middle.
You should be fine. -
Nice gift for your wife. For my wife... I got tired of being tech support so I got her a Macbook.
Risky I know, but it's worked out. Anyway you'll be happy with it. I am typing away on mine right now, what a great machine the T61 is.

That's great Towjam. hope she enjoys it!

Thanks! Unfortunately, she's not a laptop connoisseur so she doesn't have the same appreciation for the T'pads that we do. For example, when I first talked to her about ordering the 61, the first thing she asked was, "What colors does it come in?"
I was hoping to possibly score another R61 Circuit City deal but it looks like that was a clearance sale - none of the CCs in my area have any left except floor models (and I don't buy ANYTHING that isn't in a factory sealed carton). What's ironic is that I ended up returning the R61 when I found out that my company was issuing me a pimped out T61p. If I'd known then that her HP was crapping out, I could've given her the R61. -
lol on the kicking a$$ part...that is funny
you will get ure computer shipped in a week or so...their estimated ship dates are way off...unless you bought a very rare spec computer...then some parts might be on shortage
btw...what kind of CPU? -
