I just picked up the ThinkPad SL410 and it meets all my requirements exactly and for the most part I'm happy with it, but when I bought it to work I then learned it doesn't have docking capabilities.

Any recommendations on something exactly like the SL410 (the C2D T6570 refresh model, 2842-FBU) but with docking capabilities?

    TIA

You could just get the USB type docking solutions that lenovo has.

Cool! I found the ThinkPad USB Port Replicator with Digital Video (45K1610). Thanks, I'll look into that further later (and 3rd party USB port replicators).

I do love the ease of simply placing my old laptop into it's docking station without having to plug in an USB and power cable. Any recommendations on a model similar to the SL410 but with full/real docking capabilities?

Well the sl series doesn't have the same usability as full fledged thinkpads (except t4x0s/x3x1/x100e), which have docking solutions.

I guess most "similar" be R or T series. But, ya, just depends how often you rip. I remove my x200 multiple times a day so I appreciate the docking station a lot.

You know the irony after you make all those exceptions, is that's basically not even half of the thinkpads!

Also don't the W5x0 series also not have a full fledge docking station option? Or maybe that was the W7x0 series..

    Oh, ya...w7x0...

W500 should though. But all the new models should utilize the new docking solution lenovo has out that essentially is via USB so you can just rip and go without having to let it undock.

no one is really going to take their W700 everywhere like they do with the X200, and given that the unit have all of the features found on the dock, having a dock station is not the top priority for W700....
