I have a 100GB 7200 RPM hard drive. However, I checked my C Drive today under My Computer, and it says I only have 3-4 GB free! It's strange because since I've gotten it, I've only installed some small applications and transferred music and videos from my desktop, which totals no more than 30GB. I'm confused as to why it says I only have 3-4 GB free; if anyone could help me out, that would be awesome. This is on a T61 by the way

Could be a number of things. First steps to try without adding any software:

    1. Empty the recycle bin.
    2. Run disk cleanup (My Computer | Right-click on C | Disk Cleanup Button.
    3. Defrag the drive (same steps as 2, but go to the Tools tab and defrag).

That should clear up space. If not, post back.

Have you searched the hard drive for *.tmp files and folders? Or just check the root drive and see if there are any .tmp folders. For some reason I had a huge (nearly 80GB) .tmp folder. Deleted it and recovered all that space. Depending on what programs you use, some can create a lot of temp files (like video/audio editing).

If that doesn't work, then you can start looking at programs. A good one that's free is Ccleaner. But check things first because it permanently deletes files (temp files, cache, etc.). You might want to start conservative.

Have you also run an anti-virus scan/malware scan?

ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery could be responsible for the catastrophic HD usage. Try checking out your settings for it and deleteing any backups it might have made.

Interestingly, when I double click and open the C Drive... I select everything and click properties. It only adds up to 52.6GB, but when I right-click the C Drive, it says I used 82.6 GB, where's that other stuff coming from?

    Also, I'll try that idea.

Exactly, that was my problem too. Did you make sure to unhide all files, including protected OS ones? If they still don't add up, I'm sure Rescue and Recovery is up to the BS. I don't know how to fix the problem, but I'm pretty sure R&R is it.

Yeah ,I noticed some guy had the same problem; and he deleted his backup file. However, I'm unable to find the backup file that was created - do you have any idea where it could be?

Yeah, I couldn't find it either. That's why I scrapped ThinkVantage all together.

    Did that fix the problem?

And afterwards, is it possible to re-download all the ThinkVantage utilities? Well, all but the R&R that is?
