Well then, now I have to post my "burger" after all this...
This was the stack before the T420, before selling the T510 & X220.
From top to bottom: X220, MacBook Pro 13", T510, T61.

I am glad there is safety in numbers.
Bunch of sickos.
-
i like the Macbook Pro you got there to give a different taste to your burger.
-
As much as I love ThinkPads, my first love will always be the Mac. The MBP is my daily driver for most things, but it's slowly being superseded by my T420. Also doesn't hurt that my MBP is in the shop for repair. More quality time with the T420
.
-
While, i have had a few Macbook Pros, i am just not really into their OS systems and the keyboard placement for the 15 and 17 inch machines are not perfect. I do like the 11 inch and 13 MBA, everything is perfect in terms of physical layout and doesn't get overtly hot.
-
The W520 is 1.42" at the thickest point if I remember correctly.
Same here, only the W520.
I want something a bit more portable like a X220 but I'm a university student, so I got a lot of other things to spend money on. -
Isn't the W520 much more than the X220?
I only have a T410 but I'm still divided on whether I should get a X-series or either a MBP or MBA next. I guess a lot will depend on how Windows 8 is. But as of now, the two computer companies I'm going to purchase from are only Lenovo and Apple. -
At the time of purchase, my W520 was actually cheaper than the X220. I didn't have to pay for this laptop as my dad paid for it, but more likely than not the next computer I get is coming out of my own pocket. Also, at the time of purchase, I didn't think that the W520's size would be an issue, though, once at university, the thing is a lot bigger than it was just sitting on my desk at home. It takes up like 1/3 of my dorm desk on the longer edge, and 1/2 the space on the shorter edge; at home it only took up like 1/5 and 1/3 respectively.

I'm not liking Metro too much, but I'm hoping that it can be turned off to allow for a 7-like GUI.
-
It can be disabled. Metro UI sort of runs side-by-side with Explorer UI.
-
Thanks great news to hear
. I'm disappointed that Microsoft is trying to push what seems to me a tablet interface onto laptops/desktops. I don't think is makes sense other than for touchscreen versions of said computers.
-
I try the developer preview of 8, the metro ui is arkward at best. The thing I really like about the metro interface is they handle multitask and the login UI.
Back to the main topic, I am thinking about getting a additional burger on this black friday, since I only have one slice of bread. I want to get out the small burger support group.
formerglory, why did you sell you x220 and the w510. -
I sold the X220 for the T420 because I wanted something with a more comfortable trackpad and a little more "Oomph" in the graphics department. The T420 isn't that much bigger than the X220, IMO, and it meets my needs much better.
There are some compromises, though. The screen quality is inferior to the IPS panel in the X220, and it lacks USB 3.0 and a full-size ExpressCard slot, but it makes up for that by having a better trackpad, discrete GPU, higher resolution screen, and more expansion options. So, the tradeoffs are worth the gains.
As for the T510, the T420 replaced it as well in the graphics dept. Again, the T510 has a FAR better screen (FHD RGBLED) than the T420, but nothing that an external display can't fix for photo-editing stuff. The T420 has a faster processor, better battery life, and graphics switching. The T510 was an earlier model that had discrete graphics only. Plus, I picked up the T510 for cheap since it was broken, so I made money off of the sale.
I was planning on doing a larger writeup on switching from the X220 to the T420, but that's been on the backburner with school and all. -
waiting for your writeup.
-
+1 me too!
-
I would also appreciate a write up.
Love my X220 and all for schoolwork, yet I've been becoming constantly more frustrated as the resolution and small screen size is getting to me.
Thinking about possibly trading up a size. -
Screen resolution is certainly one of its downfalls. I have an x220 tablet on the way and screen resolution was one of the reasons I was going back and forth on it.
I hope the next version has resolution options. -
I don't have a Thinkpad "Burger", but more a Thinkpad "Salad", Am I still allow to post a picture?
-
well we need a balanced diet.
-
I take it as a yes
(you've seen my "salad" already in the TP sister forum)
Here we go... Mines are not stacked but more dispersed... (three TP's are missing)
-
i did.... i got a Panasonic CF-T4 too. ThinkPadders must Think alike.
-
I think Toughbooks are the only alternative when looking for sturdy notebooks "à la Thinkpad". Unfortunately they're a nightmare to disassemble/repair... I'm also looking forward to buying a new one, but they are very rare around here. -
Yeap the Toughbooks got too many screws, which is one of the reason that it can take so much punishment.
Toughbooks are excellent machines but the price and their keyboards feel is not that great. I like the Touch screen only version, we have couple at work and they are excellent but costs like 3000 dollars. They use those in McDonalds too. -
I am enjoying my first patty - x220.
-
soon you will have the mayo, ketchup, cheese, the bun... and then you got the burger with the lot.

Stop promoting the addiction.. -
i am the Csar of ThinkPad addiction...

Yeah...you can say that again! Whenever I see that stack, I am simply amazed! Right now, my stack is only two machines high (I have another very old ThinkPad but that does not work for some reason - never got it fixed and probably its too late now and will be too expensive to fix). I think my next ThinkPad will be bought around the end of next year and will probably be a 14" one.
Edit: Let me change that. I think by the end of next year when I am ready to buy another ThinkPad, I may even go for a 15" machine but will complement it with (hopefully) a ThinkPad tablet (must have a stylus though and will probably opt for Win 8 as an OS if available at that point in time). -
The T520 with the quad core is pretty good, haven't seen you on the forum for a while now.
-

Yeah...been a bit busy and what can I say, my ThinkPads (touch wood!) have not given me an iota of problems.
That suggestion for the T520 is a good one! I'll seriously look into it though my "procurement season" is yet some time away.
Btw, the X201 really has paid for itself and has held up admirably. The R400 is now used by my partner occasionally - though I keep it fully updated etc. It remains, for the most part, on her desk. But the X201 has been banged around quite a bit and it has - have I said it already - "held up admirably"???
Edit: Though the battery of the X201 is not at 83% and it has only been since April, I think. Is that too bad? Somewhere on these forums there was a thread on Battery life and I had mentioned some number - most likely that is wrong. I just notice this 83% on the Power Manager app yesterday.
Edit 2: Re: The T520 available around my parts is this one. Only version available. How does it look? -
that T520 looks okay but not brilliant, and the price is slightly higher than what i would like to pay.
-
lineS of flight Notebook Virtuoso
Unfortunately, that's the only one available, which is always a problem in my neck of the woods. -
then wait a bit and see whether there are other opportunities come knocking.
-
here is a slight update (maybe i'll make two piles next time):
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y259/mariol90/X61/P1110601.jpg
top to bottom:
Z60t
Z60t (with Z61t internals)
SL410
SL400
T400 x4
T61
Z60m
T61
T61
T60p
T500
W500
missing is an X61, two X61 tablets, and a T60 15" because it did not feel safe to stack more. now i just need to sell most of them
the T400 notebooks with P8400/P8600 and intel graphics seem to run much cooler than the one with a T9400 and ATI graphics (even running on intel). -
what do you do with all those laptops?
-
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
Some people collect classic models.
The X301 is probably the best example of a collectors item in my collection. -
My thinkpad collection so far is an x40,x60 tablet and a t400.
-
i got two
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I would love a X301...but 900 for a used one is far too much...if T410s styled notebook was more solidly built..
-
Added a X120e for a short while. So far, max count is just two
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Shoulda got an X220 and joined the X220 club.
-
give me your X220t and you can have my X220.
-
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
I paid $595 for mine and it's in immaculate shape. Watch for a deal. They do happen. -
At most, 12 thinkpads.....now down to 8
still hunting on ebay for good condition X301 and Z61T (titanium lid version).
although I may just go T400s instead of X301. -
Avoid T400s they are fragile. The plastic parts break easily. My T400s had palmrest replaced almost 3 times. X301 is still the god of X series.
-
Well, I actually lied a bit since the X120e isn't my laptop. It's an evaluation unit I'll have for about three weeks before writing up a review and returning.
Definitely liking it in the ~12 hours I've had it so far. -
All I have is a recently acquired second hand ThinkPad X61 :-(...and two Dell Latitude Laptops (D630 & E5410). ;-)
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
As long as your lead org CTO model has ULV i5 with 9 cell plus slice and IPS.
-
Damn that is a rare collectable edition.
-
quick pic of my burger stack
From bottom up: T61 15.4", T61 14" WS (T9300 cpu+good nvidia chip) , T60P 15" UXGA(still a project) , T60 14" (w/ATI graphics), X60s, X61s, X60T SXGA+, and X120E.
I think people should take picture of their Ultrabase collection too....
How big is your Thinkpad Burger
