I have a new T61p on the way and I want to raise the memory to 3GB. How many slots are there in the machine? It is coming with a single 1GB DIMM.

There are two DIMM slots in the T61p.

So, to get 3GB of RAM, all you need to do is get a single 2GB stick and you're good to go.

XP AND Vista will both recognize 3GB of RAM. (32-Bit and 64-Bit)

XP 32-Bit Max RAM: 3GB (Varies a little)

    Vista 32-Bit Max RAM: 4GB

Actually, 32 bit operating systems can see up to about 3.2GB or so, so he will be fine.

No problem. Glad to be of assistance.

Dam I got Business 64bit because I was told only x64 OS's see 4gb. Do I get the rights to a 32 bit version if I bought the 64 bit?

Red text is unclear or incorrect. It would be more clear to say that the 32 bit versions of both XP and Vista can see about 3.2 GB RAM. The 64 bit versions of XP and Vista can see at least 8 GB (the amount depends on the edition), but many notebook motherboards can accept only 4 GB.

Question: Would 3G be better for gaming? Or would 2G in dual channel.

3gb...dual channel gets only a 3-5% performance boost.
