Do you have the Lenovo Power Management drivers installed? I think Windows (Vista) needs ACPI drivers in order to support Hibernate.

If you are fairly certain that hibernate should work but it just does not appear in the power options, do the following:

Open up Start menu and start typing: Command Prompt. When found, right click on this and select Run as Administrator. (If you do not want to search you can find it at: All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt) Remember the Run as Administrator or it will not work.

Type the following command into the command prompt: powercfg -hibernate on

This should turn on hibernation, or if there are any problems, at least provide an error message.

It is too bad that Microsoft took out the user interface to have hibernation turned on or off. You can use the previous method also to turn it off if you supply it with an off parameter instead of on.

I always do a "start -> shutdown /h (in the search/run box)" when powering down for the night, quicker than clicking a button IMHO.

After formatting with XP/Vista, the options to sleep/hibernate are usually disabled.

I re-enabled sleep by installing the lenovo power management drivers for my Vista, whereas in XP you have to manually turn Hibernate back on when in system properties or whatever.
