A VERY attractive notebook. I've always loved that u260/u300 design. Actually looks like a notebook hah
-
Very thin notebook. I bet that it is less than 1" thick judging by the pics. Battery life is probably very disappointing though.
-
Looks like you can store them in a bookshelf. XD
-
Nice design, now give us 10h battery life and HD+ screen
Btw, link seems to be broken in OP.

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
indeed its great, however Im strongly betting that this is a larger version of the u260 with the same internals -
The U300 is supposedly a 13.3" Sandy Bridge version of the U260. I came close to getting the U260 but performance was just too compromised. Instead, I got the E220s which has Sandy Bridge and a low voltage Core i7. It is almost the same size as the U260, just a bit thicker. It may not have the " appeal" of the U260 but I think it is the best looking Thinkpad available. Also, you can easliy add an mSATA SSD to use as a boot drive!
-
yay... another e220s buyer!
we're a rather rare commodity around these parts, apparently
-
two words:
LLANO FUSION
you know you want to Lenovo, a 35W quad-core with 400 shaders would rock! -
Minor 3D modeling with integrated graphics? Where do I sign? Heck, when is the X221 coming out?!
-
Hot! Worried about battery life though...
-
That is what really hurt the u260 and I really hope Lenovo can put a larger/better battery in this.
-
Looking at the pictures again, I find the lack of ports very odd, all there is are 3 USB ports, plus a headphone combo port. I'm pretty sure they could've atleast thrown in an HDMI port in there somewhere.
-
2 USB, 1 HDMI, and a headphone jack. (I can't tell if there is anything on the front.)
You can see the ports and the laptop better in this video:

any news from lenovo on their lineup for AMD Llano (A) Series notebooks, and whether the U300s series is among them?
-
so far it hasn't even been updated onto the company site yet, I'm hoping it will come out with the other ultrathins at the computex, rumored around this september DX
-
Aren't the AMD Llano APUs 35W parts? The U300 and other ultraportables use 17W ULVs.
-
Engadget has a hands on video for the 13" U300, or U300s.
Also 14" U400 in photos.
The anodized aluminum finish on these cases looks quite nice.

Nice one from http://thisismynext.com/2011/09/01/lenovo-ideapad-u300s-ultrabook-u300-u400/

I like! I wonder if the U300s will come with a HDD solution?
-
Looking good and w/ some nice spec's too. I wonder if this impending launch is what caused Lenovo to dump the price for Y470 and Y570 recently?
-
The portability-focused U-series is a distinct segment from the entertainment-focused Y-series, so I doubt it.
The U300s looks great, the clementine orange color looks nice on it. -
damn damn damn, i wish this was out earler... i guess ill make my girlfriend buy one and steal her's
-
No backlit KB nor 1600 x 900, 350 nits matt display? The glass is half empty.
-
well I guess Brodsky you are after the X2? But no matte LCD.
-
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
You have information on the X2? Are they changing the screen? Hopefully they are. -
With you on this one, having these would make it complete!
-
I really dig the design of the Ideapad U series.
If you can't have IPS with HD+ or FHD on the Thinkpad line, I doubt you will have on the Ideapad line lol
Maybe your children will be the happy users of a U3000 with an IPS 1080p screen.
2010-2020 is the decade of TN. Enjoy it while you can

Really like the look of the IdeaPad U300s! With its Core i7-2677M (1.8GHz) and 256GB SSD, it will probably be one of the best Ultrabooks available this year.
Based on my experience with the Samsung Series 9, the fact that it only has minimal ports (USB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI, headphones, mic), is really not an issue. I really try to do as much wirelessly as I can.
Only thing that I don't like it that is has max of 4GB RAM -- tough to tell what sort of difference that will make on these Ultrabooks though (and whether more is needed). Actually, I would miss the backlit keyboard too... -
No backlit keyboard, i thought that was just standard these days...
-
It's interesting that a number of online stores (Provantage, FTI Computer, eRacks, NextDayPC, etc.) already have these U300s models listed. They obviously are not available for purchase yet and Lenovo says that will only be available for purchase in November.
The 13.3", Core i7-2677M model with 256GB is listed at under $1,600 (which seems like a good price compared to the Samsung Series 9). Only thing it's missing is that back-lit keyboard and it does have less memory... -
This PCper.com article states that each manufacturer will only produce 50,000 ultrabooks. That's the max number intel will subsidize and they won't reduce the price of the chips. Might be an opportunity for AMD to bring their bulldozer chips in at a lower price than intel's Sandybridge, IvyBridge chips.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.
Silly Intel, the high price and limited availability were the parts your Ultrabook was supposed to drop | PC Perspective

what is the purpose of the U300 vis-a-vis the U300s
yes it is fatter, and presumably cheaper, but why bother making it when they also have the U400 with an optical drive.
i have heard rumours that the U300 will come with a discrete GPU, is this true? -
The U300 has full voltage CPU's and normal hard drives that allow up to 1TB of data where as the U300s has ULV and 256Gb SSD. To me, it seems the U300 is there for people who need larger hard drivers and more CPU power, at a lower cost.
The only real problem is the U400 is pound heavier than the U300. Currently, the U400 is the only one of the bunch to have a discrete GPU. -
see your point, but it feels like a wasted opportunity.
-

According to the feature table at Discover Lightweight Laptops | IdeaPad U Series | Lenovo (US), all three have discrete and integrated which probably means Optimus.
The table also conflicts with your other statement about ULV.
Where did you get your information? -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
try to get the pdf info from each models, you will see the u300s = ulv
u300 = full voltage
u400 = full voltage and 6470m -
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
Gotta love Lenovo marketing. This seems to happen quite frequently. You never know what to believe when the webpages, data sheets, and "reference" information at Personal Systems Reference (PSREF) sheets is inconsistent.
I'm inclined to believe the thinner U300s will be ULV. I wish they would list the graphics chipsets in detail, especially if they are planning standalone discrete, Optimus, or the AMD version. -
i think he [may] be right, if you have a look here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/not...00-u400-laptops-discussion-3.html#post7914723
the U300 datasheet is no longer available, so it is possible {just} that it is out of date.
massively hopeful i know.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
lets just hope that you are right.
However I wouldnt get my hopes up due to the way lenovo is doing business in the US (if you are US bound), since the introduction the new edge line we were hoping that the same gpu options that were outside the US, were available, although this didnt come through at all. The e420s, e420 dont pack any of the 6630m goodness that we were hoping for, and I would say that the e320 is tied to the same fate. lets hope that the U series aint affected by this -

Anyone know how the SSD storage in the U300s is being accomplished? Is it a standard 7mm drive, a mSATA card, or something proprietary?
For that matter, if someone has the inside scoop on the U300 and U400 that would also be nice to know.
I'm sure someone will do a U300s tear down pretty quickly but I figure someone here has seen the hardware maintenance manual or something. -
i believe it is msata.
-
I wish they would produce a 15" version!!!
Any news on this? -
The whole PDF story is messed up: both U300 and U400 specs list "Starting at 3.5LBS" which is quite obviously BS then U300 PDF says 1.58kg and U400 PDF says 2.9lbs which is 1.3kg... ?
I'd say U400 is likely to be 2kg, about a pound more than the U300 is listed at but that's not bad at all, considering you got a decent discrete VGA, a DVD-RW (why no BD option?), a tad bigger screen and most importantly an extra hour of battery life. -
sorry, does the U300 datasheet pdf link work for you?

New color? -
Anyone have any new info on the U300s? It's available for pre-order from a few sites online from $1200 to $1600 depending on specs.
Dynamism - Lenovo IdeaPad U300s
I'm really wanting the orange, but I'm worried it's only the high spec'd $1600... little too high a price for me... Anyone have any other info? -
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
For the same price you can get a MacBook Air. Do they really think the two are equivalent?
