Well it's official
Newegg.com - Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p (59362706) Notebook Intel Core i7 4700MQ(2.40GHz) 15.6" 12GB Memory 8GB SSD 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M SLI
Haswell 4700MQ(2.40GHz)
On the front page of newegg.com. Not a fan of 8GB SSD though? Lenovo website still isn't updated as of this moment.
***UPDATE**** Do to recent information that has been brought to my attention I have updated my post.
I really wish lenovo would get there act together. There mistakes on there website are unbelievable and inexcusable. The fact they still haven't fixed the 720m graphics card says a lot. I think it's safe to say anyone ordering from lenovo is taking a calculated risk. Let hope and pray once they get there U.S. factory up and running these mistakes stop. It's clear there factory in china simple doesn't care or orders are getting messed up in translation. Till there mistakes are corrected I advice anyone looking to buy this model to either buy from a big box store where they can read the box themselves or go with another manufacture.

That's a Y500. With Haswell. Why not just call it for what it is instead of using a whole new name?
-
That's exactly what I was thinking. Just a re-hash of the y500, and if any changes were made their probability not that important. It's kind of odd that lenovo them selves don't even it listed and newegg does. Usually company's will issue them to take it down because it officially hasn't been announced.
-
Maybe they fixed some of the problems that people have been having? Like a newer trackpad?
-
The trackpad was fixed with the "updated" 750m version. With that being said, a lot of issues were not addressed with this so called "updated" version and I don't think they fixed anything, I'm hoping for lenovo's sake they did.
-
If you're still considering the Y500 for your next laptop purchase (and I don't blame you at all if you've already given up on it), it might be a good idea to take a wait-and-see approach. Different SKU's will pop up on Lenovo.com and hopefully people who buy the new models will report on whether any problems have been fixed. As of right now, the better-specced MSI GX60 is only a little more than the Lenovo Y510p on Newegg and it's a better deal IMO if you're willing to forgo some CPU performance.
Based on what I know I wouldn't say the clickpad was completely "fixed" after they switched to Synaptics; it just became less broken. The cursor twitching when pressing the buttons is still there and while you can get rid of it by turning sensitivity way down, it's a bandaid fix at best. Having sensitivity so low with a large screen and clickpad scroll area is pretty inconvenient since it takes like 5 swipes just to get from one side of the screen to the other.
If Lenovo fixed anything, it's definitely under the hood because nothing looks different in those Newegg pictures. Looking at the specs, Haswell and 8GB (instead of 16GB) SSD cache are the only changes. -
Looks like there will be a 24 gig msata with 16 gigs of ram whenever the lenovo site gets updated. Biggest change will be the Y410P. Looks like they will begin selling a stock sli version.

Well what I think I settled with what im going to do. Since I technically dont need a perfectly good laptop until August, im going to experiment a little. I will most likely buy the Y510p and see how it turns out. If I get upset with it or it fails on me, I will then return it and buy the new GE60 with a GTX 765m. The problem with the GX60 is the size. That is the whole reason why I am selling my current GT60 because I need something more portable for college in the Fall.
-
But GT 750M SLI and GT 650M SLI are both significantly faster than a single GTX 765M.
That could very well be the case. 1TB 5400 RPM + 8GB SSD sounds very much like Seagate's newest SSHD. What's funny is I recall reading some reviews of the new drive and it's actually slower than the Momentus XT it's replacing due to the slower RPM (5400 vs. 7200).
Sounds like a good plan. If you do get the Y510p maybe you can let us know about your experience with it?
I was in the same boat earlier this year when I bought the Y500. I was using an ASUS G73Jh and at 9 lbs+ it was just too big and bulky to carry around school and use in lectures. Plus the hardware was getting a bit long in the tooth. So I sold the ASUS and bought the Lenovo. When it was working the performance increase in games was huge, easily 2X and more when overclocked. The Y500 is no lightweight but compared to the G73 it's much smaller and thinner and weighs at least 3 lbs less. Funny thing is it's so much smaller that it's too small for the laptop compartment in my Targus XL backup, which I had bought specifically for the G73, so I have to put it in a laptop sleeve to prevent it from sliding around too much in the there. -
Ah nice, and yeah I will be ordering the Y510p around June 5th once I receive it I will tell you guys how it is. Hoping for the best that's all.

The Lenovo Y500 is far from a "good" portable laptop. Lol
-
Lol your just upset because your Y500 finally had problems and failed on you.
-
Really now? I am upset? I got a full refund, a free mouse, and a laptop to use for free for a month.. Yeah, I am balling. It is 5.9lbs, 15.6", and should have a cooler (3 pounds maybe?).. How is that mobile, at all? My Y500 was going to sit in my dorm for gaming. Pull your head out of your butt, if anything I am happy about this experience because I kept complaining to jarhead about how I made the wrong purchase. Go ahead and ask him, too.
PS: How 'bout them Chicago Bulls? LOL -
Damn dude I was joking around... I wasn't trying to be mean or anything. Anyways what do you mean by you got a free mouse and a free laptop to use for a month?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2 -
Well at lease they have one thing going for them, the customer service/support. Just got done talking to them, been waiting for my ultra bay dvd drive, original order placed on 4/15, they said I might get it in 2 months from now. told them that, that was unacceptable and if I wasn't going to get an assurance as to why its taking so and when i'm getting it then i'm returning my laptop. They said they will call tomorrow with an answer.
-
They said I could keep my mouse (I got it for free) and they refunded everything even taxes.. so I used a laptop for a month then it broke.. I needed one so it did its job until it broke and pissed me off
-
i wonder if lenovo will sell this model soon. i was going to get the y500 but now, why not settle for this newer instead?
i just chatted with a sales rep at lenovo. they don't even know about this model. Y510P. they kept telling me that this model is discontinued even after i showed them a link to neweggs product listing for the Y510P -
Have to call the online chat Reps are useless.

Seagate is Possible seems small for Intel smart response.

chatted with live support again this morning.
all they told me was that the model will be released mid june. -

I was at my local Fry's (in Dallas), and they had one on display with a sale date of June 2nd listed...
-
O wow, and it was for sure the Y510p for the same price as Newegg?
EDIT** Now that's said im going to go to my local (by local i mean 45 minute drive) Frys electronics and check this thing out. Ill report, when i get back. -
damn you lenovo online sales reps!!!
guys. Frys.com has it on their website as well.
another edit:
AVAILABLE at 3 local Frys stores near me.... -
-
SLI model?
-
3 models are listed on the Fry's website: Fry's Electronics |
All three are SLI 750M and Haswell i7-4700MQ. The only differences are RAM and SSD cache size. They're going for $1100, $1200, and $1300.
They have the model that's also listed on Newegg. It's 50 cheaper on the egg, $1150 instead of $1200.
It's definitely not as cheap as previous models or what you could find after discount/haggling on Lenovo.com. The base model with 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD is $1100 and you add $100 each time you up the RAM and SSD capacity.
They've got it in stock at all stores close to me, so I may go check it out sometime just for kicks. -
i just talked with 2 sales online, they are quoting mid to late june release date for their online store directly from lenovo.
i might call my sales rep and see if he can bring down the price of the y500 more since i'd be getting an older model. -
What I find interesting is if you look down at the specifications section it says " blu ray ultra bay bundle include". Maybe this is why the dvd ultra bay is "supposedly discontinued". Things just got interesting.
FRYS.com | Lenovo -
Looks like no matter what its gonna be alittle more money. For the best price probable have to wait for lenovo to list since the warrenty with accidently for 2 years is $ 80. Newegg is around $ 160. I'm guessing haswell is only going to increase the framerates a couple frames in cpu intensive games.

So I just checked all 3 versions of the new y510p on fry's website and the only model listed with the "blue ray ultra bay bundle include" is the most expensive version here FRYS.com | Lenovo , Now is this just a fry's deal or are all of these models shipped with the blue ray ultra bay option. Newegg only has one version listed so I cant tell. Can any of the people who went to fry's verify this as to the fact that I live in the middle of the ocean and cant do so.

The y410p and y510p are so not worth it!!
150 ~ 100usd (b/w y510p and y500) difference and all we get is the 4700qm with DISABLED iGPU which was supposed to be the highlight.
Such a disappointment.
Real world performance improvement wont be anything more than 5-8% and negligible change in battery life.
I hope other manufacturers come with something like:
i7 4700mq+gtx760m with optimus for 900usd
i7 4700mq+gt750m with optimus for 800usd
then that would be good -
Lenovo.com has added the updates and they are a lot more expensive. Might be worth it to go with Ivy Bridge.
Also found this interesting in the description (Starting at 5.95 lbs / .61" thin) Thinner and lighter appears to be a redesign to some extent. Also updated to 5 hours battery life. -
wow just checked out lenovo's website. i like the new design. and it's ready for order!?
-
I saw that the dual graphics Y510P comes with GT750M and GT720M. Any thoughts on this mismatch?
-
lenovo really needs someone to proof read and check their website...
-
Do you think it is a typo? So it should be 750M SLI?
-
What new design? The Y500 and Y510p look exactly the same. The only difference I can see is that the Y510p is a little lighter.
Also I just went to my local frys and they had only 3 in stock. So I put one on hold for me and I will be picking it up either tomorrow or the 6th. -
Typo its 750m sli. Not the first time and wont be the last time.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2 -
Also guys, did anyone else notice that the display is now an Anti-Glare display??
EDIT** I just talked to a sales rep, and she told me that the GT720m is not a typo. Im kind of scared now to know if it is a typo or not. -
i just brokered a deal with my lenovo sales rep!!!! i got the same deal with student discount and for the same price!
-
Also, if you could let me know which rep you spoke with, that would be really appreciated.
-
I too was told it is actually a 720 in the ultrabay
-
Well I will find out in a couple of days when I go to pick up my Y510p. If it actually is a GT720m, the I will test it out and see what its like, and then ill most likely return it.
But my question is, how would it even be possible to pair up a GT750m and a GT720m together? I feel like it has to be a typo, just for the sake of being logical. -
The one on Frys.com says it is 750 SLI. So maybe it is a typo.
-
guys. if you want the rep's information, PM me. i will give you the details.
i'm talking to him as we speak. he has confirm with me multiple times that the ultrabay is 750M and not 720M. -
Could you possibly please PM me with the quote you get and the rep who offered the deal? Thanks so much. Sorry I am new to the forum, and I was having difficulty finding how to send a private message. Thanks a lot!
-
Hello arcticreaver, I am new here and so i cannot send a PM to you, but I need the details of the lenovo sales rep who can help me in getting the new y510p for a reasonable price. -
i will send the information to you guys shortly once i am done talking with the rep. i'm asking permission to give out his information.
also, he is conforming with me that it is indeed anti-glare screen, 4th gen intel processor haswell, 750M SLI not 720M. it is a tad thinner.
