Hey, that blowing compressed air sounds like a cool idea, why you don't recommend it?
-
There's nothing wrong with blowing through the speakers with an air can to dislodge any dust, dirt, and other loose particles, provided that your laptop is powered off when you do it. Just position the end of the straw a couple inches away and use short blasts. I do it every three months as part of my routine laptop de-dusting procedure. I would, however, recommend that you use an object to block the fans from spinning when blowing dust out of the vents, as the high speed can damage the bearings.

Well, If its a hardware problem, I figure blowing compressed air at it might break something. Mine sounded like there might have been some tiny particle resting on top of the speaker, but yours sounds much more extreme.

In internet explore everything looks good so neat, but in chrome is like blurry everything.

I just installed win 8.1, should i install the drivers from the lenovo DVD?(they are for win 8)
-
I have it all on stock, so everything should be installed. Device manager gives no question marks on missing drivers. I already tried to update the touch pad driver, but no change. What drivers do u mean by "MEI" ?
Thx for the assist. -
After some hours working whit Y510P, I don't like somethings:
- When I am in quite room I can hear the fans working, doing search on internet or seeing videos on youtube.
- I start the 3DMrk11(at 720p, because is trial) and the fans going crazy and the laptop get so hot, and I stopped it de 3Dmark I thought is dieing jaja.
- The famous touchpad, work good, but the scroll sometimes works and than stop...I reinstall the driver from the origin brand, but happens the same.
- When I download som App, and I open to install, its slow, need some time to start the installation. I hope its for the 1TB 5400rpm.
In cinebench I get 25fps/Opengl test.

I agree with you that y510p isn't perfect. For me most annoying is touchpad -> it's unresponsive and that makes that horibble sound when you tapping it.
For your speed issues you should start thinking about SSD drive because that laptop deserves for something better than 5400rpm hard drive :/

I've searched around and I'm afraid my google-fu is failing me
. Where can I see a list of what's available for the ultra bay slot? I ordered a y510p with the SLI 750m's, but was thinking about slipping a fan or hdd tray in there when I'm out and about to save on battery and weight. I dug around Lenovo's site, but wasn't sure where they would be listed.
-
Search for Y500 accessories, they are all compatible except for the 650M.

Hey guys. Is there anyway to disable the Nvidia Optimus on this laptop? I would like to be able to to turn the Nvidia card on before I'm about to play a game and turn it off when I'm done,
-
Today I tride Davince Resolve. Not bad. 2.5k Raw footage whit basic color grading 10fps, between 70-85C. 4k raw footage 6fps but 92C. Can somebody recomend me some good cooling pad. I saw some but only help 2-5C. I need more if is possible. Thanks

Just ordered the notebook and it should be delivered tomorrow! I'm exited ^^
Didn't order a cooling pad yet but I still plan on getting the Notepal A200 from cooler master. If anyone can recommend me a better one for about the same price I'll be glad to hear it. -
Do you have the SLI edition of the laptop?
-
Then why would you want to disable Optimus? This is exactly what optimus does. If you have a single GPU it should already be enabled. You can check out the settings in the nVidia control panel. On my machine (single GPU) the 755M only runs when I start the only game i have installed. Everything else is set to use the intel graphics card. And trust me you can hear and feel when the dedicated card starts running.
-
You can feel it with your hand too
-
I have a single 755m and I find that it's making noise when it's not in use. I disabled the card in the device manager, and the noise goes away. That's why I want to turn it on and off.
-
Go to Nvidia control panel, 3D settings and pick "auto-select", then in "program settings" choose which apps you don't want the 755M to activate on.
-
Where do i get the usb 3 drivers pls? I am still on win 8. Thx!
-
Windows8 has native usb 3.0 support. Here are the chipset and MEI drivers for Windows 8:

After 3 days using it. I can tell I love Lenovo Y510p. For the price you van get it is amazing what offers:
- The speakers sounds amazing, I do video editing and I can use it for reference sound. So neat.
- The screen is very good, 1080p, 2, 5k looks so nice.
- The build quality is very good, feels so strong and the keyboard.
- After some days I get how works touchpad and its ok, works good.
I must change the HDD becase 5400rpm is too slow.
The thing I don't like is it get hot easy whit not too mutch stress. Yesterday I installed Adobe CC and the temperature was 60c - 88c... I don't know if the Core Temp its wrong but is weird how the laptop change the temperature that easy.
And can somebody tell me if can hear the fans a little bit when are in the quiet room and the laptop is 40-50c?
I love this laptop and I don't wanna change it o returned. But I want to know if mine is good or I must change it.

Hi, I need to know if this laptop is what i should buy. I want to play games such as; Skyrim, Starcraft, WoW and then older games like KOTOR, Star Wars Battlefront 2. I'd like to be able to play games that come out in the future without having to upgrade. This is a link to the one that i am looking to buy.

Thanks many many
-
Make sure you are hearing the fans, not the hard drive. I have a SSD, so I personally cannot hear my system AT ALL, and under max load it's only a quiet purring sound, and my temps stay ultra low thanks to CPU mods. I can thus play intense games in public areas without bugging people
-
What kind of mods? Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk -
I got 2 cores shut off, edited multiplers, undervolts on Core/Cache/iGP and a TDP of only 18W on my CPU ^_^
CPU maxes at 61°C under max load, and the main fan NEVER kicks in
However this is probably overkill as performance goes, as disabling 2 cores will hurt performance for high-end tasks. -
BTW is there a certain 'technique' to install these? I simply ran the 2 files, restarted and didn't work. Even my mouse couldn't work. Had to restore system point. Thanks.
-
So, let me get this straight...your USB 3.0 port is not working?
-
It is working but seemingly not working well with my external hard disks.. As in it will disconnect intermittently..
-
try this, can't promise it will fix anything:

Can you raccomand a cooler pad?
And a case sleeve.

Hey guys! If someone have problem with filcking screen, when it isn't set too the full brightnees like here: Y510P Screen Flicks - YouTube You can solve this problem, just read the coments below the video!
-
Hey guys i just got my laptop last week, and like it alot. But i noticed that when the screen is completely black, like on a black screensaver, there is a lot of white hue. I think its called screen bleeding. Everything looks fine when i am on the desktop or playing a game. Let me know if this is common for this machine, or if it is defective.
Thanks. -
Cool, found the DVD burner and the HDD caddy ($190?!?!?!). Thanks for the tip on how to search for them, don't know why I couldn't get them to come up before. Now to find a Blue Ray drive for the ultra bay
.
-
I haven't been able to find the blu ray. You could purchase the DVD accessory and mod it with a custom DVD drive (total cost: 140$) but i would just recommend an external BD player.
-
Yeah, I'll probably just settle for the DVD drive, the blu ray would be overkill anyway. I figure I can pop the dvd drive in when I'm going to be out and about, since the computer will use optimus with the single 750M, then when I plan on gaming, pop the other 750M in. Dunno, we'll see how much I actually end up swapping it, I may get lazy and just settle for one or the other
.

Just got the Notepal A200 for my recently bought Y510P SLI
So far I'm positive about this cooler:
After a playing session with Sonic & All stars racing transformed I checked the max temperatures at HWMonitor
CPU Max: 77 C (170 F)
GPU 1 Max: 65 C (149 F)
GPU 2 Max: 73 C (163 F)
Positive:
- Cools good with it's 2 big fans
- Fits nicely
- Easy to fit in my backpack with the laptop
- USB 2.0 Hub (In total you get 1 extra USB 2.0 port to your laptop! )
- You can let the fans spin faster / slower
Negative:
- Quite loud
- No on/off switch -
Have you undervolted? You could drop those temps by another 5-8°C
-
I haven't. Doesn't undervolting make the performance worse?
I think these temperatures are fine. I'm used to 85 C + with my old laptop. And then I'm not even talking about max tempertures. -
Undervolting does not make the performance worse, the worst it can do is affect stability, but thats why you need to experiement a little to pick the right voltages. And even though your current setup is cool enough, wouldn't it be awesome to ditch the cooling pad?hedgy likes this.
-
I really like the other adventages of a cooling pad too, it puts my laptop a little higher, I can use it on my lap and I get 1 additional USB port. So even if the cooling is unecessary I probably keep using it.
But if undervolting has more adventages I might be interested? Does even cooler temperatures make the lifespan longer? If so I might be interested.
-
Well, this sucks. I received a replacement and it does the same thing.
Y510p, single Geforce GT 755M. -
Man this is the most active y510p thread I've found yet...Anyway, I just ordered a y510p (Dual GT755M SLI, 16 GB RAM, 1TB/24SDD) from Lenovo's website and was wondering whats the general consensus on shipping time/accuracy from their site?
While doing research I came across a lot of threads/reviews saying it sometimes takes up to a month for them to deliver or that the its the wrong model (Really worried about this one!). But for every "They got my order wrong" post, there's another saying Lenovo nailed it (like the one a few pages back).
I only ask cause I'm kind of on a deadline and need the laptop within the first half of January. -
good news for 755 owners:
