If we'd do that, your profile and PM inbox would be filled with hundreds of spam messages every day. There's a reason why this requirement has been implemented.

Ah! I left out a letter in the email its [email protected]
-
I know, I was only kidding. Rules are there for a reason and we all appreciate it.
-
Thanks Thesonu. I'm gonna give it a shot later on.

Just had a lengthy chat session with Crucial. They will be releasing their "M.2" line of SSD in late July/early August. Sizes will be 120GB, 240GB and 480GB. He had no info as to whether or not the stick will be short or long like in the pictures on earlier post links. I would think short since we're moving to a more portable world but maybe the 480GB and higher speed versions will be longer? I'll keep digging for more info and will post my findings. If you want the chat transcript, for whatever reason, PM me.

Just got really interested in the new y510. I was considering something else until i saw newer lenovo y510p. Anyone bought it can check if it really has a anti-glare display?
-
It looks matte in these screenshots: Y510p - Imgur
-
Well the screen is not so much visible in these photos! Bright outdoor photos can distinguish matte from glare. Anyway whoever took these photos didn't have the screen in mind.

yup. we need a better look at the screen. and maybe we need a user review.
-
Sorry i meant to put [email protected]. Accidentally pressed w. Hopefully this one will work.

Thanks for the great information in this thread. Did a bunch of research and was looking at the y500 before the y510p came out. You really get the biggest bang for your buck with these models. I just ordered this model from newegg.com yesterday: Newegg.com - Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p (59362706) Notebook Intel Core i7 4700MQ(2.40GHz) 15.6" 12GB Memory 8GB SSD 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M SLI
It's supposed to arrive on Monday so I'll try to post another review with some pictures. I'm curious if the reports are true on this model, that it has a 24GB SSD instead of the 8GB. Also how fast the 1TB HD is, couldn't find any info on that. -
just got shipping confirmation, but only for the mouse and case. my laptop is not going to be shipped until 6/19. such a long wait.
-
I see that only the fry's model has a sshd .. I would definitely go for a sshd and add a ssd later.

My mouse only just got shipped. So all three will ship separately lol. Normally when companies are this inefficient, their prices get hiked.
-
the sales rep told me the order would ship all together. oh well. i guess i can use the case and mouse for my current laptop lol.
and yeah, this is pretty stupid to ship things separate. talk about multiple shipping charges for lenovo. thankfully we don't pay for shipping. -
Can the one that got his Y510, share the 3dmark11 score please.
-
Sent it to you guys! Good luck! And yup, it worked this time jmgeniesse!
-
Haha, you're not the only one misspelling emails XD Got you too! Good luck!
-
Look back 5 or 6 pages. It was just a hair over 5000 with stock settings on two different machines.
-
That's odd, you go the deal a couple days before I did, but mine's shipping on 6/18 XD
Well, with lenovo's really weird estimated shipping dates, I really don't know what day to expect this thing to turn up on! -
hello. mr sonu please email me the details of the sales rep you spoke to. I hope this deal works for me as I am not a college student and am just hoping to get the y510 with a single 750m for a good price seeing as my budget would only allow me to get it for around 900-950 w/ ny sales tax
here's my email add: [email protected]
thanks again, -
actually my ordering process has been a nightmare.
i work for a golf distributing company, and apparently, this work address of mine is considered a freight forwarding company with lenovo, and they basically banned me from ordering from lenovo. i had to get a co-worker to order for me and ship to his home address. extremely craziness with lenovo.
had i known this, i would have had the laptop shipped to my home address, but since lenovo basically banned me from ordering from them forever as it appears, i need to take drastic measure just to complete my order with them.
finally been able to complete the order yesterday. -
so still no optimus like ever ...
still waiting for that Y580 successor ....
-
-
i would just like to see the screen with the laptop turned on with fluorescent lights in the background
-
Y580 is discontinued. Y500 replaced it.

I need more than only 2 people for certainty. -
Same and I wanna thank you so much for giving me the sales rep's information. He was so nice and got a great deal!
-
Did you get my pm?
-
no problem. glad i could help you out.
-
My estimated ship date is 6/14, and estimated delivery is 6/18. I can't wait! And I bet I'm not the only one!
-
pm'd also
-
Sonu. Can you please forward me the contact info for that lenovo rep. Email is [email protected]. Thanks alot!
-
I was hoping to replace the 24GB with a crucial 256GB and the 2.5 with a Crucial M4 500 GB. Looks like that isn't happening. At least it saves me having to buy the msata drive.
So in this config, the OS goes on the 24 GB msata and everything else on the other drive? It wouldn't take much to fill up the 24GB drive does it? Having a tough time figuring out how to best deal with the storage config when I swap the. 5400 rpm drive for the crucial SSD.
Any feedback would be appreciated! -
Sent you a pm.
-
Sent it to you! He never asked me whether I was a student or not, so I don't think it'll be a problem. Good luck!
-
I plan on using mine as a dual boot os. Maybe Linux or even os/x if I dare.
That is until I find a ssd that fits the new slot
-
@shrink
I don't think os goes on the ngff 24gb ssd, i think its for Intel smart response technology. Caching that is!

Btw, I contacted SanDisk today. They have a 128 gb m.2 drive coming out in 4 weeks but it might not be available through normal retailers. I'll be able to order some in small bulk but they are kind of expensive(a little over a dollar a gig). I'm waiting on a data sheet for the benchmark speeds(better be fat for that price) but I'm told they are 42mm long. Even so, it's good to know there is at least 128gb at that size chip coming soon
-
This is the only reason i prefer a sshd. Cause sometime in future my os will be sitting on ssd, which will have to be replaced if 24gb is still there.

Damn - now I'm confused. So if I clone the large drive with Acronis and restore it to my Crucial M4 500GB drive, should that work or will the drive not be aligned? I was hoping to avoid the hassle of clean installing and having to figure out how to configure the 24GB cache drive (unless I simply remove it until larger capacity versions of that form factor are released and similarly priced to msata.
-
Yeah it will work, but a new hdd will lose all your drivers which are there in your hidden Partition, don't do that until Lenovo releases drivers.
Sent from my XT910 using Tapatalk 4 Beta -
Maybe the cloning option would work as the entire drive would be cloned. Need to check whether disk clones restored to ssd's are automatically aligned.
So no driver disk comes with the Y510p? Any word on what if anything comes with it in the box (other then the power brick)? -
Yeah right cloning will work, thought you were talking of a fresh install.
Sent from my Droid Razr -
I was thinking about a fresh install if Acronis True Image 2013 didn't properly align the SSD. Still trying to figure that out but reports are conflicting. Thanks for the replies!
-
If that didn't work try macrium reflect, it is very good i have used before, it will realign 1tb to 500gb if data is less in there.

Should work seamlessly. No idea how the 24GB caching of the SSD will work. Hopefully it can be easily disabled unless the 24GB is faster than the SSD.

If you clone your drive, you'll be fine. Just back up ask the drivers on a DVD and delete the partition. Or keep the spinning drive in case you return it later. As for the cache drive, if you plan on using a 2.5 inch ssd, you might as well turn the cache drive to legacy support in the bios and use it as a standard drive. Sorry if I misunderstood and you already knew that.
Edit: sorry for my typos earlier. I'm using swype on my phone and it's guessing some crazy words... -
In the bios, turn off UEFI and turn on legacy support. This will make the cache drive a standard ssd that you can read and write to(assuming it supports it). I doubt caching a ssd will be that much faster and the con outweighs the benefit in my opinion. The con being that if you ever remove the cache drive in the future, you risk not being able to boot
