Get the Nvidia ones. There is a tool out on the web too, from Guru3d.com that will remove ALL Nvidia drivers and allow you to do a fresh install of the latest ones. I would highly recommend running that prior to installing the latest Nvidia drivers.

Just saw this on engadget....."Moving on, the IdeaPad Y40 and Y50 replace the existing Y410p and Y510p, respectively. Based on the spec sheet, at least, it seems that if you can deal with a slightly less portable machine, you'll get much better specs on the 15-inch model. For instance, it's offered with a 3,840 x 2,160 display and optional touchscreen, whereas the Y40 tops out at 1,920 x 1,080 and is non-touch only. Further, the Y50 has a backlit keyboard option, while the 14-inch version apparently doesn't. The two will also have different graphics solutions -- AMD for the Y40 and NVIDIA for the Y50 -- but without specifics, it's hard to tell by brand name alone whether one model has an advantage over the other. Either way, both with up to a Core i7 Haswell processor, up to 16GB of RAM and either a 512GB SSD or up to 1TB of hard drive space. Expect both to arrive in May, priced at $999 and up."
Lenovo unveils line of low-cost 'Miix 2' convertibles, refreshes its Flex, Y and Z series laptops
It looks like the ultrabay concept is gone now (the laptop is a bit thinner than the current gen y510p). This is what another website said about the graphics options:
"Both laptops feature up to 16GB of DDR3L-1600MHz RAM, 1TB hybrid SSHD with 8GB SSD, 720p HD webcam, JBL stereo speakers and subwoofer with Dolby Advanced Audio V2, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI, card reader, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, Windows 8.1 and up to five hours of battery life. Up to AMD Radeon M270 2GB graphics are offered on the Lenovo Y40 and up to NVIDIA GTX-860 2GB on the Lenovo Y50. The Lenovo Y40 and Y50 Touch laptops will be available later this year for $499-$999."

GTX 860? Sooo rebranded 770? Not much of a performance upgrade then.
>The Lenovo Y40 and Y50 Touch laptops will be available later this year for $499-$999."
I just spit my coffee. Wait.... WHAT????
999$ for 860M (770M) + 16GB + 4k? Are you joking me? -

800M has already been confirmed as wholesale rebadge of 700M with stupid amounts of VRAM in some cases, e.g. 880M 8GB. 860M is rebadge of 760M because 2GB VRAM. 770M rebadge AKA 870M would be 3GB VRAM (or 6GB ROFL). Pretty pathetic considering the current 755M (single GPU) nips at the heels of 760M in most games and has more memory bandwidth. Two generations later and my original Y500 SLI still beats the newest models. Sad.

Man, I was actually waiting for the successor, while I got up the cash for a new computer, and I'm really disappointed. While it looks much nicer (slim and carbon fiber? Yum!) and has a 4k touchscreen, its graphics is pathetic for anyone wanting to game over 720p.

It will have the 860M, which is 765M rebrand, so it will have a hard time playing at 1080p, 900p will be the resolution you are gaming at. But on the bright side, it will apparently still have an optical drive, so you can get that switched for a caddy. Carbon fiber might increase the build quality.
I would have preferred a slightly thicker laptop with 860M SLI. Now that would have been a worthy successor. Keep the 4K display, but matte non-touch please. -

Sorry if my problem has been addressed. Did a few searches and couldn't find anything...
Anyhoo, after updating to Win 8.1 the audio is less than stellar and the volume is fairly low. In particular, there is zero change when turning Dolby audio on whereas prior to the audio update I heard a very clear and surprising difference. I updated the HDMI audio drivers, but that didn't seem to have any effect. Also, under 'volume control options' I clicked on all devices that were off. This did seem to result in a slight increase in volume.
Has anyone experienced this issue? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks! -

Oops... double post. How do I delete?

Leave it and let the mods sweep by and remove it.

Jobine,
Gaming at 1080p with a 765 should be no problem. I game with the 755 single on 1080 with no issue. I have had a 765 before and I think the 755 does better for some reason.
I know it sounds strange, but seems so. -

With single 755m and i7 i got on 3dmark11 in 720p 3040 ..it is ok ?
 -

It sounds normal but link the result here.

Physics Score is about 1000 points too low but that's due to this laptop's problems with Turbo Boost out of the box. You'll need to use ThrottleStop to fix it but I wouldn't recommend it as it'll probably cause your CPU to overheat. Other than that, it looks good.
 -

 ook thank you

If you are feeling a little brave, an undervolt can help you reduce your temps by a good bit (i personally dropped by 8 °C) however at the cost of some potential system stability.
Also i recommend (this is 100% safe) to grab Intel XTU and lower some of the multipliers, try 33x/32x/31x/30x, your temps will be much lower and you won't lose much performance, while reducing throttling.lao3hero likes this. -

What are your thoughts on 4700MQ vs 4702MQ? ...does anyone know if the latter also tend to throttle?
 -

The former has a higher TDP and uses more power under load.
 -

doesn't have 4702MQ 37W TDP? (if i wrote it wrong i appologize..its really late and im not a native speaker

so does -10W TDP mean a significantly lower chance of throttling and is it worth sacrificing 200MHz or do you have to have luck on a good piece of silicon? (same applies when you want to succesfully undervolt like you mention Jobine - as not every chip can run stable on your voltages) -

 Fixed it for ya.

Hey guys,
I bought y510p with a single 755m and i7 4700 MQ about a month ago, and from what I could tell has been running fine. However, I'm unsure if my GPU is performing as expected. Using 3DMark11 I get a score of 2939, which is a little less than the score that lulp linked in the previous page. Is this is a significant difference? I've also linked the full results.

Your Physics Score is very low, that's why. Even with Turbo Boost disabled you should still be scoring about 1000 points higher so I guess there's some additional CPU throttling going on. Use ThrottleStop and your Physics Score will return to normal and raise your overall score a bit.
 -

Thanks for the quick reply. So other than my physics score being really low, the graphics score looks fine? Also, will the settings that you used for ThrottleStop work correctly with the y510p? Lastly, will this show a notable performance increase when gaming?
 -

Yes my ThrottleStop settings are fine, just use 32T or higher for the multiplier and download version 6.00 here.

Your Graphics Score looks normal. Unthrottling your CPU can give a noticeable performance gain in CPU-bound games, in GPU-bound games not so much. -

Ok, so I just ran throttlestop and only checked Multiplier, I did not check clock modulation or chipset clock mod. Still seems a bit low, but here it is.
Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,LENOVO VIQY0Y1
Temps went up to 87C on the CPU, but no higher. I guess the paste job is decent from the factory. -

That's normal now. It's not a low score, it's just that my GPU is overclocked.
 -

So after running ThrottleStop, making sure its turned on and setting the multiplier to 34T, my Physics score still seems too low. I've attached the new 3DMark11 results. Any ideas?

Is "Set Multiplier" checked? Are the other settings the same as in my screenshot? Make sure "Disable Turbo" is not checked. What is your max CPU temp after running 3DMark 11?
 -

Yes, set multiplier is checked and disable turbo is unchecked. The max temp is 92C.
 -

 Then I'm kinda stumped LOL.
 -

Yeah, I have no idea. I've managed to increase the physics score to 6796 by increasing the multiplier limits, but that's still lower than it should be. Could it possibly be driver related?
 -

Nah it can't be driver related. Are your BIOS settings at default and is anything running in the background that could be taking up excess CPU time?
 -

I'm assuming the BIOS settings are at default, since I havn't touched anything since I got the laptop. Nothing else is running in the background that would impact CPU time.

 Hi
did a few runs @ 3.2 and 3.4 , 299 and 283 sec average.
I'm pretty sure Throttlestop is enabling the overclock bins on your cpu...
No way, haswell is that slower than ivy. Can someone with 4700mq check TS bench 1024M as countercheck?

hi guys, i recently got this laptop and upgraded to windows 8.1. Everything works great except when I play intensive games, I get a windows pop up saying "close programs to prevent information loss your computer is low on memory" and soon afterwards I get a BSOD stating "irql_not_less_or_equal igdkmd64.sys" has anyone encountered this problem or can give me some help?

Ghoula,
I'm getting same scores as you. (i7 4700mq on win8.1)
edit: ran 3dmark11 and the scores seem right so maybe it is just throttlestop. -

No the 3630QM is completely locked and has zero overclocking bins. I'm at a constant 3.2 GHz during TS Bench and no higher.
Your 3DMark 11 Physics is normal for an overclocked 4700MQ, maybe it's just TS Bench acting funny for you for some reason.
BTW how far did you overclock your 750M SLI?

Hello guys!
I got a y510p with 755m sli. When I play games such as bf4(not ultra) etc the temeratures on both my cards and my cpu quickly goes up to around 95-99 degrees celsius. I just wonder if that is normal for this computer.
Just when watching a stream right now my temps on cpu and gpu1 went up to 85 ish degrees! -

conscriptvirus Notebook Evangelist
No, I would say thats on the hot side. Does your computer throttle or shutdown after a long period of gaming? I would consider talking to lenovo tech support. Something is probably wrong.
Just as a comparison, my cpu only goes up to ~85C and gpu 80C when playing BF4. Other games is usually under 80C CPU and under 75C GPU. -

 Hi Jobine,
I recall reading you giving the specifics for how much or what to do to undervolt, etc, but I just couldn't find it using the search function. Mind giving the 'instructions' here again, pls? ie. for lowering of temps and reducing throttling. TIA! -

Like mine.. the temps of the pic are running ONLY mcafee...i returned mine and get whit only one gpu and 8gb.

 Thanks for checking.
Ok.then it is TS bench. There is no need for complain, just one bench, system is fast enogh otherwise.
That was done @1300 but it is just benchmark speed, everyday clock is 1200
      -
Ok yea thats much lower than me. How do I know if the computer throttle? It havent shut down yet but sometimes I get flickering in bf4 which might be because of overheating? I also did a 3d mark 11 test right now and I think I got quite low didnt I? Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,LENOVO VIQY0Y1

Your physics score suddenly became as slow as a 2nd Gen i7 2670QM @ 2.2 GHz.
 -
Do you know the reason for that? Any suggestions what to do?
 -

SO I went into the BIOS to look for my windows key and i'm not really sure where I would find it. Can anyone help with that?
Also, when in the nVidia graphics experience, it says my screen resolution is some like 1534x800+ and not 1920x1080. But when i check in the windows screen res and the intel screen res settings, they say 192-x1080. What's going on? -

Get Throttlestop or use Intel XTU to lower CPU multipliers to lower temperaturs, i suggest the latter.
