Lenovo Sucks.... I Just Got My U330 today 11/10/08 at 4:07 pm. And am already returning it.
It Has 5 Large Black Spots Within The Screen. The Biggest One is 3 Inches Wide By An .5 Inch.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS. I WAITED 2 MONTHS.... AND FOR THIS.

    HOLY SMOKES!

Dude, ahh that is horrible.. don't worry when you call, GET an exchange, NOT a repair.. demand a new unit.

I am saying this because it might not be the only problematic thing, there could be more...

To be on the safe side ask for a next day replacement...

That's pretty ridiculous. I wonder if they would approve a replacement for that.

I'm pretty sure that this is not a common problem or we would have heard about it already. If they are going to "fix" the computer and not replace the whole thing I would make sure that there is nothing else wrong with it.

    Ahh FARK

Just looking at my laptop today and I realize that there is a gap in between in the screen at the top of the screen. It is where the left microphone is... How long do you think the repair for it will take? I really need this laptop around? Perhaps I can send it over winter break? Will post pics later!

    Sorry to hear that JarJar.

Don't really know what to tell you. I know this sucks big time. But given all the time you've been waited for the laptop, I'd say get this taken care of and demand them to ship you a brand new unit.

How could QA at Lenovo got this passed their assembly line beats me.

Could it be the screen was damaged during transit? Looking at your pics there is no way Lenovo will ship this unit out knowing the extent of the damage. I really think the screen was damaged because of rough handling from the factory to your house.

Normally I'd tell you to give it up and buy anther laptop, but this machine is just worth all the hazels. If you receive a defect free machine this is a beauty.

Hope you will get a brand new machine to your liking next time.

Maybe you can ask for another $50.00 credit for all the pains Lenovo inflicts on you.

    Good luck.

I can't believe how much headache a laptop can cause. Light weight, 3gb ram, switchable graphics, 350GB HDD, wifi/bluetooth.
For those of you that already own it and have gotten used to it, I mean is the U330 worth all this?

looks like you were wrong. I ordered a u330 on 8/23 with 10% cashback and cancelled it 8/25

i ordered a u330 on 8/25 with 10% cashback and received it 10/2, then cancelled and returned it.

AS OF TODAY - BOTH CASHBACKS WENT INTO MY BANK ACCOUNT, ON BOTH CANCELED ORDERS

so basically a free $200 so you were wrong, microsoft doesn't check to make sure the order went through, especially on the one i cancelled literally 2 days after ordering

    Yes it does.

I checked all the laptops at Best Buy, Fry's, CC, Newegg and internet etc. and nothing come close at that price.

    You are just being unlucky.

    Sometimes bad things happen.

Scream and yell at Lenovo until they ship you a brand new machine.

As I said before, I highly doubt they on purpose shipped you the laptop knowing the screen is damaged to such an extend.

It is highly likely your UPS guys are the culprit.

So hopefully once you get your replacement you'll be extremely happy with your new toy.

Again sorry for the troubles you are going through.

Just make sure you get a ZeroShock protector. And you can purchase one on ebay. Well worth the money.

If you like you can go to Lenovo forum and email the guy name Mark Lenovo and see if he can give you any prompt assistance. ;)

    Sammywisegamgee,

JarJar1145 has already reached out to me. He's had a rough go, with some shipping delays, and then the damaged LCD - truly bad luck.

He's already set up with a return and the unit is on the way back - we will try to speed along his replacement unit.

Personally, I find him to be an unusually patient and unique customer, and I hope in the end that we can provide him with a U330 that he will be pleased with.

    All,

I'm really glad to see so much interest and discussion for this system - I think it's one of the best looking IdeaPads yet.

    Mark

Mark has been very helpful in sorting out my U330 issues, and so has this forum as well as the Lenovo forums. Now I just have to wait for things to clear up and then I can go ahead and place a new order for a U330.
-Rest assured I will be getting a ZEROSHOCK III case, that thing is sweet!

I bought the Tucano Second Skin Elements 13.3" neoprene sleeve for mine. It fits very snug and has a "diaper" (as the sales guy called it) which is like a hood stitched right next to the zipper to protect the notebook from scratching by the zipper and zipper track.

Samwisegamgee, I was going to get the Zeroshock III after reading your recommendations, but I didn't have the patience to wait for it to ship.
The pricing was comparible, $37CAD (+ taxes, shipping, cross border duty) for the Zeroshock vs $35CAD (+ taxes, I picked it up locally) for the Second Skin.

The downside of this sleeve is that it doesn't have a zippered pocket on the outside like the Zeroshock III and the exterior is clearly branded with Macbook labelling. It also the word "Polycarbonate" printed on the one side, don't know if it's made with that.
So if you don't mind the Macbook advertising, it's a great sleeve for the U330.

anyone kno if the zeroshock III's zipper scratches the laptop on the inside?

also, everyone with a U330 go over to zagg.com and request for them to make an invisible shield for our laptops. **** fingerprint magnet is driving me nuts and looks just dirty all the time. also somehow my glossy finish got scratched/chipped a little bit. T___T. i cant take it. i baby the thing, and its still getting destroyed.

haha maybe if enough ppl request, we can have one made! WOOT.

I just saw the invisble shield video on ZAGG.com. That thing is nice, but i noticed they dont have any yet for the U330. I will be getting one if they put the U330 up there.

-By the way, just curious to know if any of you guys are playing ne games on it, am thinking about gettin NEED FOR SPEED UNDERCOVER.

I checked out the Tucano after I read your post. I still like my ZeroShock better. ;) The ZeroShock looks perfect for the U330.

If you ordered it on ebay it shouldn't take that long for you to receive it; unless you are not from the States.

Mine shipped from Dallas and received mine in less than a week.

No not that I know of so far with the ZeroShock. The zipper is sandwiched between 2 grooves.

Can we just order the 13.3" shield?

You know you can get a piece of cleaning cloth for glasses to clean the glossy surface.

Yeah I hate the glossy lid. Fingerprint magnet.

    Oops... my bad.

Please disregard my comments in above about the ZeroShock zipper. I was talking about the zipper for the side pocket. I wasn't thinking straight. ;)

As far as I am aware of the zipper that opens and closes the ZeroShock does not scratch the laptop.

    Sorry for the confusion.

This computer really does need some kind of invisible shield. I too baby my U330 and have gotten many scratches on the glossy finish. I don't care too much about fingerprints cause those can be wiped away but the scratches can't. As far as what games are being played on this laptop, I'm doing a little bit of gaming but nothing really intensive. Just playing Wolfteam and this computer plays it flawlessly.

Hey guys, I had e-mailed the ZAGG.com people to ask them if they have an Invisible shield for the U330. Sadly they dont have one, they said that you would have to have it custom made, by sending in your U330 (that we waited so long for) to them so that they could make one.... Am gonna pass on that. I'll just wait.

If you've read this board in the past months then you'll know about my issues with Lenovo. Go to the Lenovo forums/Ideapad boards and register if your already not and look for a guy named Mark_Lenovo. You have to send him a private message within the forum. He's the one you need to talk to. I think his direct email might be on here somewhere. Hope this helps you out.

Guys, hi all... is just me or everyone's U330 takes too long to hibernate? Mine is taking somewhere between a minute to a minute and a half. Just want to know if there is anyone else with the same issue.

WOW. That review is total garbage. Seriously, seven minutes to tell me that it has switchable graphics and VeriFace? The dudes a moron...

Anyways, I have been away from the forum for a while. I was one of the very first to receive my U330 and I must say I am very pleased with it. It was a tough choice between the U330 and a Sony Z, but I decided I could use the extra change.

Those of you waiting, be patient. I have no doubt you will be pleased with your U330 as I am.

If anyone cares, I have played a bit of Fallout 3 and the notebook gets warm, but provides *decent* frame rates. The heat has decreased since I first got the notebook, I suppose the break-in is done.

I see what looks like one in the front of mine, but can't find it in the Device Manager.

Lenovo doesn't list an IR port in the specs for the current two configurations.

I have a little issue with my U330. It just doesn't want to go to sleep automatically. Tried the Vista settings and the ones in this Energy management Lenovo settingsoftware - but no, won't work, unless I use the FN-F2 shortcut.

    Any suggestions?

Can anyone here confirm that Lenovo u330 comes with matte screen option?
according to lenovo.com US it does, it says:
13.3 WXGA TFT with integrated camera AntiGlare 1280x800

Thats about the only one i know of. Stupid manufacturers that cant offer decent looking laptops with matte screen.

wow just took an hour to read through 20 pages :p

I'm seriously considering getting the U330, but I'm kinda discouraged at the battery life. For those that recently received theirs, what do you average for battery life? it's one of the main reasons why I'm thinking of getting it (upgrading from Asus EEEPC 1000H) and I need at least 3.5 to 4 hours for classes.

So last night I was watching a movie on my u330, connected to my HDTV via HDMI. I had set the laptop above my Xbox 360. The movie ended and I shut the computer down.

Later on, I picked up my Xbox remote to power up my 360, and when I pressed the power button, my U330 started up!

So those of you who were wondering if the IR receiver works, it does indeed! But unfortunately the only command it will recognize is power on.

    Hello Folks,
I was among the first ones who ordered U330 and waited for one month and finally got it on Oct 05, while ordering I did not have an idea that Apple is going to launch new Macbook aluminum, So got U330 and used it a bit and then had a chance to see new aluminum Mac book, U330 on the papers shows better than new Macbook but physically when I compared both it took me no time to decide to get rid of U330. I sold it and lost some money even but I have no regret. My opinion for U330 is not good. It is simply Chinese built standard quality, if you just see the power brick it will tell you that how poor is a built quality and size of it , Battery life of U330 is not even half of what stated on Lenovo’s website. I was not impressed by the thickness and the look of that laptop even. Top lid is too shiny. I know some peoples may not like this but no way can I say that it is a good laptop. I have used Sony, Dell and now I bought Aluminum Macbook . And will say again that I have no regret in getting rid of U330 and losing some money even.
