I cannot decide between the T410, and the X201. I currently have a Asus G50vt-x1 and for Uni this September I want something with a long battery life (this I know both will fulfill) , but I also want something more portable then my Asus G50vt-X1 I want the laptop dimensionally and lighter then my current laptop (for this I am sure that the x201 will fit, however the T410 I am unsure of). My current laptop is 6 1/2 pounds with battery and power cable. I prefer the T410 because of the dedicated GPU option.

Which one should I get? I have never seen a T410 is is pretty small? Relative to a 13" MBP how big is it?

what applications are you going to use on your laptop? The Nvidia GPU on the T410 is not that powerful, you could always consider the DIY Vidock for more powerful graphics performance.

T410 is slightly bigger than the MBP 13 inch laptop. They are a different beast.

The T410 is a pretty big notebook. You may want to think about the T410s, HP Envy 14, inter alia..

Envy 14 is not a business laptop, but if the OP is considering about the MBP, then i would guess the Envy 14 is a plausible option.

No I am leaning towards thinkpads, but a Macbook Pro is not out of consideration, Envy 14 is.

I might do the occasional gaming nothing too serious, like Empire Total War, Reality Mod, and COD4 maybe. The GPU on the T410 should suffice. Size is my only worry about the T410, however it has a lot of things going for it that other most other laptops do not have:
    1. Gobi 3g
    2. Great Build quality
    3. Great Keyboard
    4. Long Battery Life
    5. Not glitzy like other laptops
    6. Non Glossy decent display (my current laptop has a terrible display)

I need a long battery life, I need portability, and preferably a dedicated GPU.

Edit: I might do a DIY Vidock, problem is I need to take this overseas however if the T410 is too bulky I will get the x201, one thing I realized taking my G50vt was that Gaming does not substitute having an internet connection, and a decent screen to edit my photos on.

The size difference between the X201 and T410 is pretty big. See http://msinetpub.vo.llnwd.net/d1/keithcombs/blog/images/t410/front.JPG for instance (from the link I sent earlier).

Well it looks like I am not getting it now, my parents (hey they pay my bills so they decide), said wait till March. Now I am in a bigger dilemma as I know that Sandy Bridge is a Tock meaning a big difference from the current tick right now in Intel's lineup, but the Tick right after Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge would bring quad core's to base processors because of the Die Shrink with less power draw.

From what I read, Sandy Bridge might not be worth it, it might not even have USB 3.0, and if it does not have light peak and the next processor does that would add insult to injury. But I guess I could get Sandy Bridge 14" thinkpad, then get the Haswell one after that one.

I hate knowing parts of the future.

    X2,

Well I am going to have to wait and see what is on the next processor refresh hopefully Intel will not disappoint and I will end up getting the 14" S model, or the X301 successor if they get a violent backlash for pulling that out.

There is an x201 on sale at J&R for approx $1200. It is a pre-configured 3242 - 2FU model! way cheaper than configuring at the lenovo site!

I live in Canada, and having it shipped here from the U.S is super hard and expensive, on top of that $1200 you have to add shipping $90, duty 20%, and 5% local tax. I have done it before, it was cheaper then buying it here however.
