Hello. I deployed 450 T61 laptops last weekend. I am running an image I have been using for about 12 months, on my R51/R52 and R60 laptops. I used the Universal Imaging Utility ( http://binaryresearch.net/products/the_universal_imaging_utility) package to prep the system with only a few of the thinkvantage packages installed.
All my pre-deployment testing on multiple systems yielded no problems and we went forward with deployment.
The night of or the night after, some new patches were pushed out to Windows Update, including my suspected culprit, a new Thinkpad PM driver. Since those patches were installed, a *lot* of the machines are now experiencing an issue where the keyboard, mouse or both do not work on boot or at some point later when using the system.
It tends to happen right after the system is booted or after the system is left idle for a while. The mouse, keyboard or both just become unresponsive. They do not respond to any use and waiting or continuing to use them does not make any difference. The problem seems to tend to be somewhat similar on the same system, but is slightly different from system to system.
External USB keyboards and mice work fine, and can be plugged in after the onboard devices stop working, and will install and work without a problem.
I have used the System Update to update the Thinkpad PM driver, to no effect. I have disabled all power management functions and am currently testing removing the power management .DLLs from startup.
If I run a system restore back to pre-deployment, and leave the system there with Auto Updates turned off, it does not happen anymore.
Of course, it is intermittent and can take an hour or two or more just to test a single iteration, so its lots of fun to troubleshoot.
So I guess where I'm going with this is - is anyone else having a similar problem to this? Any thoughts or solutions yet?

Dear Jeremy:
At this time we have no known issues with the T61 model laptop provided that you are using the latest version of the UIU and you have set the T61 bios to operate in the SATA compatibility mode. The most recent version of the UIU is 3.5.0.40 REV 22.
We have prepared a fix for the T61 in SATA mode and will be releasing it as soon as it has passed QC. The only other issue is the Intel Graphics Card which is now available as a download patch and will be part of the next driver update
In order to receive the best support possible with the UIU, Big Bang Support encourages you to please send any issues you have directly to [email protected] or contact us during our business hours 8-6 pm Central at 414 225-9075.
Support will require the following information in order to effectively troubleshoot your issues:
1. C:\program files\uiu\uiulog.htm
2. C:\windows\setupapi.log
3. A copy of the application event log but please save it as an .EVT file and not plain txt
4. A copy of the system event log but please save it as an .EVT file and not plain txt
We look forward to assisting you in resolving all of your UIU-related issues.

I neglected to come and update this thread.
The issue appeared to be an odd confluence of older drivers from my older version of the image, and the updated patch from MS Update. In no way do I think the UIU program was involved, except that I did not follow the recommendation of starting from scratch on this install due to time constraints! I learned a lesson, that's for sure. -
Hi Jeremyjp.. I am also having this exact same issue... Are you able to give me a detailed instruction of what you did to resolve this please?
Thankss -

I went directly to Lenovo's website and grabbed the latest copy of system update, then ran it and grabbed the latest copies of all of the drivers having anything to do with keyboard, mouse and power management.
I think the key driver was the touchpad software driver, but I grabbed them all.
I did just have this happen again yesterday on a couple of systems, for the first time since September. Again, new drivers seemed to fix the problem.
Its definitely annoying! Somehow the MS updates and Lenovo updates are fighting with each other. Its bizarre how it is intermittent, though.
