I want to purchase a Thinkpad in the US for a cousin in India. Does Lenovo offer any international warranties, that would allow the laptop to be serviced in India? Thanks.

if you buy from the normal lenovo store, most of the models yes. outlet no.

Whether a machine has IWS is determined by the machine type. Typically, how it works is models are released in the US and as they're added overseas, IWS is added. You can use the IWS look up to see if the machine you're looking at has IWS. There's a link in the sticky. If you're buying a CTO machine, the machine type is usually listed at the top of the page.

I want to buy the W520. I tried searching for the machine on the IWS, and I get the "machine not found" response. I tried searching for other machines as well, including the T400, T410, T420, W500, and W510, but I keep on getting the "machine not found" response. Can someone confirm that these models actually do not have IWS? Thanks.
And thanks to all those who responded. -
Use 'Machine Type' to search instead of model, so don't use W520 but use 4270, 4276, 4282 or 4284 instead.
(All the above do have international warranty, for India call: 91-80-526-7117 EXT: 3777 / 3447)
I also asked a Lenovo rep about international warranty, the anwer being that a thinkpad bought with onsite warranty in the US will get only get onsite in the US itself, in any other country outside of the US it will get depot treatment. -
Might depend on the country. Last year I bought a T410s in the US with onsite warranty and later that year something broke while I was in Ireland. The technician came and fixed it in my presence.
International Warranty
