I have a 1 year old T60 (ATI X1400, T7200, 100GB 7200rpm) and lately it has felt much hotter than it used to. A trial of Everest reports the CPU temp to be 70 degrees C while just browsing the internet. This seems too hot from what I have read. If it is, any idea what the cause of the problem might be? I am not experiencing any other problems except for the heat. And I am running Vista Business. Thanks.

    CPU 68°C (0x78)
    APS 42°C (0x79)
    PCM 40°C (0x7a)
    GPU 81°C (0x7b)
    BAT 50°C (0x7c)
    BAT 32°C (0x7e)
    BUS 46°C (0xc0)
    PCI 53°C (0xc1)
    PWR 55°C (0xc2)

thats from TP fan control, the GPU temp seems pretty shocking.

edit: I realize the T60 and X1400 have a history of high GPU temps, but I never noticed the laptop getting very hot until about a month ago. I did notice a little while ago that TVTsched was utilization 100% of one core as soon as the machine booted up (and I have since stopped that). That is probably when I first noticed the heat problem, but even after disabling TVTsched, it still feels hot.

70-80c for newer gen gpu's is fine, don't worry about it. If you went into the 90s or higher I might be concerned, but otherwise meh. You can try cleaning out the fan exhaust/intake areas of dust to lower the temps.

edit: ooohh...idle temps; missed that part, sorry. Yeah that's high :( my suggestion might work though.

It seems high to me. My GPU temp is @ GPU Temperature : 55 °C after running six hours.

Or from TPFC and sending this message:

    1 cpu 50°C (0x78)
    2 aps 41°C (0x79)
    3 crd 33°C (0x7a)
    4 gpu 49°C (0x7b)
    5 bat 34°C (0x7c)
    7 bat 31°C (0x7e)
    9 bus 34°C (0xc0)
    10 pci 43°C (0xc1)
    11 pwr 45°C (0xc2)

Maybe your fan needs to be cleaned....get the dirt and dust out?

Do you have an X1400 also? I will pick up some compressed air to try and clean out the dust. Any special way to do it or just blow it straight into the rear and side vents?

I don't have a 1400 (see my signature) so that might be part of the difference.

Try to search the forums...I remember a process that was recommended. If you can't find it, let me know and I will help you search for it.

    thanks

If anyone has any experience with a T60 (and X1400) getting hotter over time, let me know. In the meantime I will try to get some compressed air and see if it makes a difference. I swear it feels much hotter underneath and the air from the vents than when it was new.

It can only help! On other PCs, I see the difference immediately.

Good luck and let us know how it turned out....with your new TPFC temperature posting.

EDIT: Thanks Arkit for the right thread.

Just blow every opening you can find with air :)
