I love my x61s but vista business is driving me nuts. I take the laptop to school to get the bloatware they put on (mcafee+spyware+word perfect+ setting it up for the schools internet), and my computer would not start AIM 6.5 after I brought it home. I re-did the OS and did not install most of lenovo's bloatware. After extensive research on here and google it seems AIM is a problem on vista. A friend who has vista had a similar problem and used the 6.2 version with no issues. So today I bit the bullet and put it on. Seemed to work flawlessly. I took it off my x6 ultrabase to use and twice I get an error reading "failure- security options" and the screen goes black in the backround and I have to do a hard reboot. Is this user error here, or is vista this problematic still? Also, are there any other messenger clients that I can use with my AIM sn with no issues? I searched and I've found mixed results on pidgin and trillian.
Here's a pic I put on my schools webspace showing the screen I got.

I've been using the older classic AIM v5.9.6089 without issue on my x61s with Windows Vista Business. Lenovo doesn't install very much bloatware btw. Norton Internet Security is about the only thing that I'm uninstalling on mine since it runs a little heavy.

Hmm..perhaps I will uninstall 6.2 and try 5.9. This happened after I pressed ctl+alt+del. How long have you used 5.9 without issue? I can't seem to find that exact version of AIM. I have this link but I don't see it there.

While that was certainly true in the past, I don't know that that's the case anymore. While they won't be confused with a consumer notebook bloatware wise, the X61s I had over the summer had quite a few programs I would consider superfluous like the Office Trial, Google Desktop, Picasa, etc. Now I personally don't care if it's on there cause I usually do a clean install anyway.

AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
I thought AIM was a problem, irregardless of the operating system.

Its been on my dell since fall 2006 without one issue on XP pro. I did some googling and some people said by "clicking too many" buttons with your mouse it can cause the computer to possibly freeze or catch up. This sounds a bit ridiculous considering its brand new with a fresh OS install +3 gigs of ram +1.8ghz core 2 duo+ turbo memory.

agreed. I never did like AIM and I never can figure out why so many people use it. Oh well I guess
At least now w/ Gtalk I can befriend them...

Had AOhell since I was in middle school and finally converted to AIM a few years ago in undergrad...bad I know. I use aim and google chat.
Is it vista, or the user's fault here...
