Is the wifi with the Lenovo Thinkpad T440 bad?

he says the wireless internet with it is very slow and often requires restarting the computer multiple times to get it to work.

In general when you buy a laptop what do you look for aside from information in reviews to find out if the device's wifi is good?

I wouldn't put too much stock into one video. While I haven't used the T440, I've been buying ThinkPads for years and have yet to experience any WiFi issues.

I mentioned this in the T440s Owners Thread to a similar question, but at least for me, with the AC7260 card, the drivers finally seem to be fixed, and most of the people who'd been complaining in the threads on the subject have either said that the new drivers work, or simply stopped adding to the threads.

In the few days that I've had my T440 I have had no issues with the Wifi. For what it's worth.

No problems with the Intel WiFi 7260AC card in my T440s. Great signal strength, bandwidth, and time to connection.

Only had one issue with the Intel AC on my T440s. For some reason it would not stay logged into the guest account at my office (which is set up in a similar manner to what you see in hotels, etc). It worked when the laptop was plugged in, but not on battery power. The fix was to change the power option setting for the card to max performance when on the battery. Problem solved.

IMO the rather complex options for configuring the wireless cards are behind many of the issues reported. People have been griping about dropouts, weak signal etc. with intel wifi cards for years and the solution is nearly always to a) check one has the latest drivers, and b) make sure the card configuration power options are set correctly (med. or max. power, no sleep etc.)

have you tried the intel drivers off their website, also there are some settings like disable uam or something in the settings. Never had wifi troubles. The touchpad was something else, but I think it was by design.

Honestly, the latest drivers for the 7260AC are almost there, but I still have mysterious connection problems that require a restart, I've lost track of which settings they've told me to disable/enable at this point, and the experience is still not as smooth in use as my old T60 was. It sounds like some people are not having problems, but there are endless threads at Intel's forums complaining about the wireless card. And it seems to be largely a driver issue, so I can't even get the card replaced. I personally would stay miles away from that card if I had a choice. It's really reduced my enjoyment of this computer when I'm trying to load a video for my class and I don't have any internet connection, or it takes 2 minutes to connect. At least it's stable now - at first, when I got it, I couldn't have a skype conversation.

With the t440s (also 7260AC), Lenovo seems to be listing 17.0.6 drivers first, and putting the 17.1 drivers further down. Good. The 17.1 drivers were the worst ones I'd ever seen on this hardware - code 43 stop on the wifi every single time I resumed from sleep. Are you guys running 17.0.6? I seem to recall those working OK for the most part, although I thought my wifi link 5100 in an older machine was still beating the speeds here. Both on an 802.11n router. I'm currently running 16.5.3.6 though, which Windows 8.1 automatically installed.

There are absolutely zero problems being reported by Linux users, thus I'm convinced it's a matter of Windows auto-suspending the device (when users don't disable that 'feature') or a Windows driver issue.

T440p, Win 7 64 here. Driver 16.6.0.8 is the one for me. It gives rated speeds for either of the two bands, it never disconnects, and the laptop connection is always on after I get a desktop after sleep.

I've tried most of the subsequent drivers and those would fail to wake the card sometimes, so I always rolled back. 17.1 was the most recent and it did that, too.

Failure to wake was the only issue I've ever had with the AC card. That happened with the driver that shipped with the laptop. Once the v16 came out, that fixed it and I haven't looked back.

Over at the Intel forum, it's insane over this wireless card. So many people starting new threads about AC7260, or adding on to existing ones. Not just noobs there, either. Many competent, experienced professionals with devices that won't connect, won't keep a connection, connect slowly, and/or won't wake up, and who know what tricks and tweaks to try. The Intel mods who reply don't seem to have much in the way of solutions, as well. Load latest driver, update router firmware, disable U-APSD.

I don't know whether to think that I've just been lucky or whatever. Seems as though in some circles if you even mention that your AC7260 is working great, that you incur the wrath and scorn of others who think you can't be serious because everybody knows that the card is no good.
