Hi
I have the X220 with the IPS screen and sometimes the screen just goes dim for a few seconds, if i move the mouse normal brightness returns. Is there an ambient light sensor or perhaps my screen is faulty?
Cheers

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
There is no ambient light sensor on the x220.
How dim is dim? No backlight dim or brightness 0 dim? -
Thanks, my normal brightness is set at 7 but when the screen goes dim brightness level goes to about 3. Why is this happening?

No, the X220 does not have an ambient light sensor.
Two possible reasons for the described behavior:
1). You have the auto-dimming setting on. You can go to Power Manager and turn off the Dim Display setting under Idle Timers (Advanced mode).
2.) Check your Intel integrated graphics settings; there's a power-saving feature that dims the display (especially on darker images) to save power. Not exactly sure what it's called for Intel, but AMD's equivalent is "VariBright." -

Hi
I'm afraid i'm still getting this problem. What happens frequently is that whilst using my notebook, the display turns dim and then gradually returns to normal brightness. Why is this happening? -
Old thread, but I think I found a fix that others may find useful. This seems to be the Intel "Display Power Saving Technology" feature at work. To disable this:
1. Right click on desktop, select "Graphics Properties...". This will bring up the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel.
2. Select "Advanced mode" and hit OK.
3. On the left side, select "Power".
4. On the right side, next to "Power source", select "On battery"
5. Disable the "Display Power Saving Technology" option.
Is there a light sensor on X220 IPS screen?
