My T61 keyboard's Tab key often comes off (the little cap). Each time I would have to put it back after quite some effort. Is there somewhere in NYC I can go to have it replaced? It's my only pc so I don't want to send it in just for this and lose the use of my pc for weeks.
Thanks.

I believe you can just call them, tell them the problem, and they'll just send you a new keyboard.

If it's under warranty, call the help line. Keyboards are a CRU (Customer Replacable Unit), and they'll send you the replacement. To see how to install it, watch the movie!
If it's not under warranty, buy a keyboard from Lenovo, eBay or a parts supplier (someone here should be able to point you to one). -
Many thanks to both! My original 1-year warranty passed, but I should be covered for one more year by American Express. How to go about such warranty? Buy keyboard first, then send receipt to Amex?

Click on Notebooks and then ThinkPad. Choose T61 from the dropdown list, and click on Videos.

If you want to go through your American Express extended warranty, then you will first have to call their extended warranty center. They will open a claim for you and then you may need to speak with a computer specialist. The claim examiner will determine where you need to go from there.
You may be required to send your machine off to their repair center for the repairs to be completed. Usually, this will take about 5-10 business days. -
Darn. That tedious just for a silly keyboard unit?

Many thanks IAmTheEvilest. Yeah sounds too much to do for just one key

I ordered a new keyboard (NMB) from IBM, great next day delivery service! Received and replaced the keyboard by myself following the video linked by Nonny (thanks again Nonny!). Now I'm typing on the new keyboard
My old one was an ALPS, and this new NMB one feels slightly different, firmer, and maybe the bouncing amplitude is slightly less (and looks so), so perhaps the key caps will not fall off as easily as the old one? Some say some new so-called NMB were actually Chicony, is that true?
This is the second time I received parts from IBM and I'm really impressed by their next day delivery service.
On the warranty side, I'll get reimbursed for the keyboard purchase. Since I replaced it by myself, I've saved the repair service for AMEX. Just fax them the receipt etc. The process is just as IAmTheEvilest described. -
Cool, good to know

How much longer does amex warranty when purchased with amex?
-
Extends it up to 1 year, up to 3 years total I believe? It "doubles" the warranty subject to the previously mentioned constraints.

:
"When a Cardmember charges the entire cost of a covered product with his or her Card account[1] the Buyer's
Assurance Plan will extend the terms of the original manufacturer's warranty for a period of time equal to the
duration of the original manufacturer's warranty, up to one additional year (up to three additional years for
Centurion Card members), on warranties of five years or less that are eligible in the U.S." -
lol. was it wrong of me to think your k was out of service?

-
So will AMEX extend (double) a purchased warranty or only the 1 yr standard warranty?

Is there a local place to fix just minor eyboard problem?
