The reason why I ask this is because of the huge sale happening now. My father needs a business laptop, to ask as a desktop and portable computer, so I though why not get an awesome Lenovo. Probably going for the T61 cause it has the best specs and will last him another 4-6 years. However, I just want to know if the current hardware installed is currently up to date or are there updates coming out soon? Thanks in advance!

You could get the T61p I have in my sig. That's the most bang-for-the-buck one, I think. If you were to customize it to a similar level in the new Thinkpad Series, you'd have to pay almost twice the amount. And, since it's a Thinkpad, it'll last 5 years no problem.

Are you sure about the new series being twice as expensive? IMO, given past trends with pricing, I would say that the newer ones when it is released will be selling for about the same price when similarly configured.

"The cost of the laptop (roughly between $1,250 and $1,400 depending on the options you choose ....... Each machine comes with a complete 3-year, next-business-day, on-site international warranty. The machines also come with a no-fault insurance policy, which provides coverage for non-intentional damage to the machine, including accidental spills, drops, etc. This coverage accounts for the price difference for the same model laptop you may find less expensive elsewhere."

So the same T400, T500 with the 1 year depot warranty will be a few hundred dollars less than the $1250-$1400 (quoted price range with the 3 year on-site warranty and no-fault insurance). That is not much higher than the current price.

That's so strange to have that much info about it on a school website.

That said, it's not a bad deal for those law students. $1,250 to $1,400 for a new T series with 3 years of accidental damage protection warranty is a sweet deal. *applies for law school*

I'd expect the price to be a little bit cheaper right about now though; the price at which i got my t61 15.4'' was much less expensive than the standard t61 15.4'' now; and no, i didnt skimp out on expensive options either...

It's pretty good, but nothing spectacular. My school is offering Dell Latitude D630s pretty much loaded with a 4-year onsite ADP warranty for $1280.
