As you might know that T61's ram speed 667MHz does not match with the FSB speed of the T9300, which is 800MHz.
Is there any way to overclock the ram speed from 667 to 800 so we should be able to acquire some performance gain by doing so?
Any idea? BIOS doesnt have the options for it, is there any RAM overclocking software out there?

what chipset do you have?
If it's the PM965 then it would be a bit hard to do, but possible.
First let me say it's useless because your real FSB is 200mhz while you real memory clock is 333mhz. So overclocking your ram will give you no performence boost.
I can help you overclock your FSB though. It will increase both your CPU frequency and ram frequency.
Another thing you could do is flash better timmings onto your ram with SPDtool or thaiphoon burner (here is your ram overclocking software).
Anyway, let me know if you want to try the above ^^^. -
What are you trying to accomplish by overclocking the RAM (or even CPU for that matter)? If you are trying to get better gaming performance, you won't, since you're bottlenecked by your GPU. If it's boosting the speed with which applications open or improving boot speed, that's not going to do much either, since both are likely hard drive speed bottlenecked.

thx for the info. guys, much appreciate it.
Yes, you r right. I found that my HDD is the biggest bottleneck of my system. But SSD is far too expensive!!! sub one grand for 256G MLC.. -
Remember that OC'ing any laptop component is usually not recommended because:
1) laptop hardware is usually designed to draw as little power as possible and the power circuits may not handle the current draw of an OC'ed component, overheating and failing.
2) weight-wise, the cooling is usually marginal even for that low power hardware. OC'ed components draw more power and need to dissipate more heat, when the cooling is not adequate the hardware fails and the damage is usually irreversible.
OC'ing with stock cooling is risky and demands constant temperature monitoring, which for RAM is not that simple.
Were it giving any performance boost it could be worth the effort, but I personally don't think this specific OC will improve anything. -
I think though that reducing the latency of the RAMs by one Clock would not hurt the system. I do run tight timings on my Desktop and wouldnt mind trying it on my Thinkpad if its possible. Increasing the FSB is a different thing though as it will bring in problems that will outweigh any performance gains.

what problems?
I'v been overclocking my FSB for a while on my notebook, and lots of other people do it too.
I don't know of any problems?
It is possible to flash new timmings onto any ram with SPDtool and thaiphoon burner.
@ elixiash, Go download the tools, if you need help I will do my best
I'm sure it will work for your thinkpad. -
@Tp_fan i would avoid the inclination to overclock your laptop, unless you deem that your laptop longevity is less important then a few percent speed boost.

Thanks moral hazard, will try it but got to solve my 1394 Adapter issue 1st. I guess you're the person to look for here when it comes to OC'.

nando4,der mali and kaltmond are the first three that come to mind.
Flashing you ram has a good chance of working, but sometimes it doesn't.
The two main problems I have seen (and have first hand experience with) are:
1. WP (write protection) enabled on the ram EEPROM.
2. SMbus error.
SMbus error can be simple to fix (I fixed it on my notebook).
WP is not easy to fix, I tried a hardware mod to the EEPROM but the notebook failed to boot with the modified ram.
So if your ram is write protected, then you're out of luck.
Now if you flash bad timmings or a bad frequency onto your ram, and it doesn' boot then there is a little trick that you can do to fix it.
Forum user der mali is the best person to ask about that, my advice is to just always flash good timmings.lol
You can find SPD dumps for lots of different ram, so you can find which timmings are good.
Also the tools allow you to change the voltage, it's not a great idea to change that. I think it will cause more harm than good in a notebook.
Is there anyway to overclock T61's 667 RAM to 800
