Is there something I can do with messed up Vista on my lappy .. thinkvantage or anything ?

Ok so here goes the story.

I have lenovo r61i and Windows Vista business 32bit.
Its no older than 3 months, and I am having serious problems already. I'm sure mostly caused by Vista.

Until now it was quite fine, but recently my lappy has offered me installation of "important security update" windows Vista service pack1. I accepted that and without and any further preparations installed that crap. After successful installation several problems has occurred.

*Sound was not working. (this has been fixed by reinstalling sound card)

*Just after booting system, this message is always popping: "On screen display message handler has stopped working". Don't know what is that and I didn't manage to handle that problem. Now happens everytime at windows startup.

* On task bar new icon appeared with two big letters saying "FN". No idea whats its for, and I wasn't able to get rid of it, so its still present there.

But Biggest troubles were just about to come ...

* From my own mistake I tried to install kerio personal firewall, not knowing at that time that it wont work with Vista, and could get in conflict with eset smart security I'm using. It has indeed caused. After successful installation of it, it asked me to restart pc. After that my lappy has never booted up coz all that has happened was blue screen of death popping. I couldn't boot Vista anymore, so it has offered me some sort of system repair by restoring to older point. I choosed point before kerio installation but after service pack. After that It didn't restore properly telling me that restore couldn't have been done for some unknown reason ... but still Its able to boot from now on atleast...

In the meantime my computer has started to freeze few minutes after booting it up successfully. Freezing now everytime I turn it on after some short time.. makes me go crazy..

Then I tried to restore before I even Installed that crappy sp1. Again failed to restore... So I decided to uninstall whole thing (sp1). It went successfully to where it came from .. however pc still keep freezing.


Now I'm really out of ideas what to do and I am wondering if there is some way how to get my lappy to state where it has been just after the purchase. I dont think I have done any back ups tho, so really dont know.

Does any of you have any other ideas, coz im running out of patience as well. I need this thing to work, but seems like it prefer not to.

PS: Should have been mentioned as well. I had Virtumonde (Vundo), adware (virus) few weeks ago which has been removed successfully, but it could have left some marks on system and been messing up as well.

 

well if you got you machine back up you can do disk restore and set it back oringal or run you recovery disk you lose all data but like it was new

when you machine is starting before windows hit the thinkvantage key and then go restore system pick one restore to factorey

am asume you have made backup set of dvd

also that have,nt change you partioning on hard disk and recvoery partion is intack

 

you can restore from hard disk as long you have,nt changed any partion

after you got restore i suggest you make setup back disk asap

 

I didn't make back up dvds, and I haven't partitioned disk. So I should be able to do that from hard disk still ?

And is my only option restoring to factory default settings, therefore deleting everything on hdd ? Even if, its still better than nothing, coz I can make it work.

btw. It came with 3 discs called "rescue and recovery disc" couldn't I use these, or are they just for downgrading to windows xp ?

 

yes you shound be able restore from hard disk that do backup disk set

 

they shound say for what os they for they cound be vista disk or xp i don,nt know i suggest use the hard disk recovery winch most like be vista you can even do custom install useing hard disk and pick what to install get less bloated installed

 

I will try it today, coz I cant stand my baby being sick coz of Vista anymore
Are there any other suggestions of what I could do ?
