I would stronly recommend adding on the 3 year depot warranty (costs around 90$).
That, and if you paid by a CC should set you up for 4 years.

1000 is CHEAP for a thinkpad

I forgot to mention, if you add on the warranty, your total after tax will get to $1100, making you eligible for a 5% credit from AMEX via their tailormde program.
So basically you get a 3 year warranty for like $40

    System graphics: nVidia Quadro NVS140
    Total memory: 2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
    Keyboard: Keyboard US English
Pointing device: UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) with Fingerprint Reader
Hard drive: 160GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
Optical device: CD-RW/DVD-/+RW Combo Ultrabay Slim

System expansion slots: PC Card Slot & Express Card Slot
    Wireless card: ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ

Mine seems to have much better specs for only $500 more, I'd have expected to pay 7 or 800 for your specs.

I configured one that was mostly like yours only with 512MB ram and w/o fingerprint reader, and 5400 for HD, 2 yr warranty, and using the discounts I got it for just over $800 before tax :) (tho I just canceled that order).

Btw for tailormade minimum I think the OP didn't include tax in the $1000.

    So long as we're bragging:
    T61p 2Ghz, 100GB HDD@7200rpm, 1GB ram, rollcage, WUXGA, NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M
    and a 5 year warranty @ $1485 incl tax.
(I downgraded OS, and got only CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive
    :D

I assumed that, the tax on $1000 will still be less than $100.

I got one with dedicated graphics and the t7300, but 80 gb at 5400 and a 6 cell battery for 850 bucks. Downgraded to vista basic though.

My apologies if my last post came over as arrogant or condescending, I didn't mean to, I just felt confused about the spec to price ratio, it seemed way off.

A three year warranty is only $90, I don't remember them being that cheap when I bought my T60. If that is indeed the case can I still buy the warranty for my T60

the funny thing is, I spend 95% of my time surfing the web and typing papers, if he is the same, he would not see much of a performance difference over my $1300 system... except for the battery. (I can't stand outlet "hunting")

your price seems overpriced... did you login as spp ?? and did you apply a coupon?? if you did, then it would be much lower than that price . i ordered a better spec than you and got my t61 for 973
