My trusty T21 finally crapped out yesterday. I believe that the hard drive went bad, but rather than replace it I'd prefer to buy a new machine.
On Techdepot.com, I came across this Z60m for $625 (after rebate):
• Celeron M 370, 1.5GHz, 2529FVU
• 256MB RAM, 40GB
• CD-RW, XP Home
Essentially, I want to use the new machine as a back-up for my R52. I'll be doing word processing, HTML work, and some Photoshop, as well as Web surfing. Nothing very strenuous.
My question: is the Celeron up to the task? If I add 1GB RAM, will the machine be able to take care of all the required mundane tasks without stumbling?
Buying a new Thinkpad for that price looks too good to be true, and I'd like some feedback on whether this machine is worth it.

The Celeron certainly will work, but be a bit slower than a Pentium M based machine and obviously won't have battery life either. Since Celerons run at full throttle all the time, heat and noise can be issues. You might want to upgrade the memory for Photoshop.

photoshop won't be very happy with those specs, but the rest should be fine.

Lemme tell you one thing. Don't ever get celeron. You will repent later.

Thanks for the replies. I had serious doubts about the celeron, and your responses confirmed them.

Keep an eye on the lenovo website. With the new Z61's out, they should be running some very good deals on the Z60's. That's what they've been doing with the older T4x's.

Celeron is good if you have nothing installed except windows xp and use it for browsing. Once u load 10 programs, that's it. My pentium II 900 MHZ is way faster than celeron.
Is this a good deal for a Z60m?
