Hey all. I'm trying to find a decently priced T42 for graduate school. Can you take a look at this one and let me know your thoughts? http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834146069#DetailSpecs

Or, can you recommend where to get the best deal on one? I would consider refurbished if it had the one-year IBM warranty.

    Thanks!

You may want to consider this:

    http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10387783&loc=101&sp=1

It costs about $130 to upgrade the warranty to three years from IBM. Another 256MB of memory will costs you around $40 on the internet, maybe cheaper if you can find one with rebates. That would make it $150 cheaper than NewEgg. Keep in mind, most internet retailers do not accept returns on notebooks, so I would make sure it is what you want. You may be able to find it cheaper on eBay. Just make sure you buy from a reputable seller. Good Luck.

I was robbed by a sweet little old lady on a motorized cart and I didn't even see it coming.

Check your school to see if they have discounted computers.
    Many have very good discounts.

If not, depending on sales tax, you can get better pricing from IBM/Lenovo Edu site:
    https://www-03.ibm.com/lenovo/shop/personalpages/public/index.cfm?&vcid=%27%29%3ESJT%2C8%2BQ%20%20%20%0A&maxid=usstudents

Or at one of the credit card sites for 10-20% off list.

Advantage of buying direct, you can return the laptop for any reason in the first 30 days for a full refund.

IBM Offers Educational discounts that take a rather large ammount of $ off the price. Give them a call up~!

No that's not a good price. I got the same IBM T42, but with a better graphics card (Radeon 9600, 64mb rather than that Radeon 9000 w/ 64mb)
AND the IBM nylon carrying case and optical mouse WITH shipping for slightly less than that model on NewEGG.

I got mines via the visa program
    www.ibm.com/businesscenter/visa

on that section, just click lenovo thinkpads, and then click notebook and do a regular browse thru
