What is the difference between T61 and T61p? Is the 7 cell battery worth extra few bucks from the 6 cell or is it too heavy?

Well I just ordered the same machine with base warrenty and smaller HD for 1175, so ya I'd say you are good. Lenovo does charge tax though which will bump it up.

I'd go for the 7 cell.. why not. You're probably talking about an extra .2 pounds.

He's ordering the 14" widescreen since his choice of batteries are 6 cell or 7 cell

Yep, 14" widescreen. I wanted the 1440x900 but looks like they are not offering it right now.

So, I guess it is a decent deal, is there a reason to go with t61p rather than t61?

It's definately a decent deal as I can't configure it with your prices using any current codes or SPP, EDU, Visa, AMEX, etc. Are you using EPP?

If you can live with 1280x800, then go for it. I would go for the T61P if you were playing some pretty graphics intensive games or doing some hardcore rendering...but you have to decide if that 400 dollar premium is worth what you will use the laptop for.
