    Hi,

Ordered a W550s a couple of weeks ago, and really didn't notice at that time that I had a dead pixel (mainly obscured by the default background image). After changing the wallpaper it stood out more, so I called Lenovo to ask about it, they told me to send the laptop in for inspection (something they seem not be able to do on-site over here in the Netherlands?)

Their conclusion: it is a single pixel, no warranty. I next asked for a photo because the black spot looked to me to be bigger than 1 single pixel on the (3K) LCD. The sent me the following: [IMG] .

I think I see a spot larger than a pixel, but maybe the grid I'm seeing aren't pixels?

Your wisdom is appreciated with wether this is a single dead pixel :)

I'd tend to believe that this is a dust spec and not a dead pixel.

Regardless, unless there's two or more of these you won't get them to replace the LCD .

Please bear in mind that I have absolutely zero first-hand experience with IBM/Lenovo repair service in your country.

    Good luck.

I agree. Almost certainly dust. Dead pixels have very well defined edges and this looks to be the size of several (I would guess 6) pixels judging by the photo. Individual pixels are incredibly small on a 15" 3k display.

I would certainly complain. If you're within the return period I wouldn't even second guess it.

Lenovo/Thinkpad support here in the Netherlands doesn't seem to be very helpful -- all I got out of them "Repair center says it is one pixel", ignoring any questions on further clarification, or that it had taken them a couple of weeks to actually send the pictures... I've asked them to return the laptop if they weren't going to do anything with it (they did earlier this week) and an email-address of a suitable department where I could get my questions answered (ignored)

Today I went by a dermatologist who is a friend of mine, and who has a very powerful camera/lens, and took a couple more pictures, against a (1px) striped background. That seems to confirm dust (as it was not possible to focus on both the stripe pattern and the actual spot), which indeed seems to cover at least three pixels.

Will send them those pictures, not expecting anything anymore, but at least I can vent my frustration again :) Still sound weird to me that 3 pixels would be covered, and 1 dust particle as large as 3 pixels isn't...
