Hi, is the below URL safe to download Diagnostics for my R52?
Lately the LED hard-drive indicator at base of my LCD cranks pretty often, and it takes forever until my system boots up. Resetting Firefox fails to speed it, nor does Defrag. MSE scans always check out OK, and running CHKDSK tested OK not too long ago, but I want a more professional check. I think this laptop had come with Lenovo diagnostics which used to hog my taskbar & slow things down, so I believe I removed it (don't remember for sure, but you can see my attachment way down below)
IBM Lenovo Thinkpad R52 Diagnostic CD - Bootable Boot Test Repair Downloads Information & Help
P.S. Until now i've been using a 4gb Sandisk flash pen for backup, having never experienced an external HDD. I've been toying with either trying the latter (but insecure due to inexperience) or else trying Fit-PC2 or its Acer equivalent.
My main need is for low, low, power due to EMF intolerance. Use of this lower power R52 has somewhat mitigated my situation, compared to all others which KILLED me. But even the R52 isn't enough. Also considering Pixel Qi's Epaper mode.

That's not a legit Lenovo-affiliated site by any stretch of imagination and I wouldn't trust anything that comes from there.
What *exactly* are you trying to troubleshoot? A failing hard drive?

Good luck. -
Yes, trying to figure out if my HDD is failing.
Thanks, I printed your link.
Q: i don't enter a password in my system. So upon F1, what should I do?
Also, is there a way to Diagnose via Lenovo without it taking over my taskbar? I believe that's why I had gotten rid of it, because it would every so often kick in, and I'd felt it was slowing me down.
Is there a way to switch to the "old look" of these forums? Because I used to be able to my PageUp & PageDown keys to see yours & other's responses to mine, while entering my own response. Now, instead, it forces me to use the Up/Down arrow embedded within the Orange Bar. (in other words, the notebookreview forum's new format, has usurped control, similar to the Fancy New yahoomail, which slows me down horrifically. -
Well, if you don't like Lenovo's stuff, this is an excellent (and safe) HDD testing utility that I've never had an issue with, runs on demand so it won't bog your system down.
HD Tune website
I just realized that some of the info on the page that I've linked to is incorrect, and I apologize for sending you on a wild goose chase. You're likely better off simply downloading and running the HD Tune software.
Good luck. -
At this point, is there any FREE tester, the closer to HD Tune the better? -
HD Tune 255 which is still free can be downloaded from the site...click "Free Trial" then scroll down and you'll see an exe. file...
Good luck. -
You may have misunderstood.
When I last used it, it was only free for a Set Time Period, at which time you needed to pay cuz it deactivated.
I suspect if i try downloading it, it will detect my IP address & display a webpage stating Add-To-Cart or something like that. -
Well, I've used it in the past myself, downloaded it numerous times and I just did it again, and it runs fine. No time restrictions on versions 255 from what I can tell.
-
Thanks! I may soon try it again - I'm bogged down now with Thinkpad UTILITI Error popping up each time I boot. (This started after my running a Clean Boot, to try & figure what's been causing my system slowness.
I guess that's a subject for a new post, which I'll do now.
Is this thinkpad diagnostics URL safe to download from?
